Connection Onkyo HTX-22HDX + Sony Blu Ray + TV

Hi All,

my question may sound stupid to some of you, but I simply have no idea of these things..

I have an Onkyo HTX-22HDX. Works nicely with my I-pod Dock. So far so good. I further have a TV Samsung LE40A656A1FXXC and a Sony Blu Ray BDP-S370.

Problem: I wanted to have both TV and blueray sound via the Onkyo too, but it did not work.

Question: I connected TV with Onkyo (via HDMI) and Blu Ray with ONkyo (HDMI, too) -> do I still have to connect the TV directly with the Blu RAy Player as well?

If not, do you have an idea why it does not work via HDMI? I used the correct in/out connections so thats not the problem.

Did you enable the HDMI inputs in the set up menu?

Did you correctly set the HDMI output? The output will send audio vai the receiver to the speakers or to the TV but not both. You have to select that in the set up menu.

TLS Guy is correct. With Onkyo, the setting's name is almost misleading, I think maybe something like HDMI Audio to Off if you want your HT speakers to work off the input (and On is for sending to TV, IIRC). As aforementioned, not both at the same time. (I don't recall well, because I never use it since my PJ doesn't have speakers.)

You will have to use multiple/shotgun connections if you ever just want to use the TV.

For instance, whether dish/cable, bluray, etc . . . run component plus red/white analogs to a certain input/setting on TV, directly from the source.

Word of warning: when using the HT speakers, you really should make absolutely certain that the TV is never playing audio at the same time. I don't think it will happen as long as you are using different input selections on the TV.
