IMO riding cyclocross bikes on mtn bike trails is not nearly as fun as mtn bikes on mtn bike trails :)
Hey man, how are ya!

That is true, what you said. I'm much rather be on something with a few liters of air per tire versus a cross tire, even a 35mm wide tire. I think riding the cross bike on trails is great for a late-summer dust-off of technical skills before cross season starts. My first love is MTBs, and I've had a lot of them. I just got tired of having to load up the bike and drive to the trailhead. It's much easier just to roll out of the driveway.

Hell, we all should have at least 4 bikes in the garage. Then there would be no excuses. It's cheaper than car racing. At least that's what I tell my wife.

I tell my wife building speakers is cheaper than all the bikes I need. It doesn't get me very far though. I totally agree about 4 bikes, this is the list I'm working on.

1. Mtn Bike - something good for long cross country rides and short ripping trails, double suspension for sure
2. Road Bike
3. CX Bike
4. All Mtn bike - atleast 6" of travel front and rear
5. Bike to ride around the neighborhood with kids and to pull my trailer...I'm thinking like an aluminum or steel frame hard tail 29er

Oh wait, that's five bikes :)

It just ain't true without pics.:D:cool:
I'm working on it still...waiting on some BB30 Force cranks. I about got worn out last night just trying to run the cable housing through the handlebar (FSA K-Wing Anatomic).

I'm getting excited though.

Still to do:

1) Install crank
2) run brake cables
3) install seatpost, saddle
4) install pedals
5) tune it
6) check torque on everything
7) ride it!
8) take pics and apologize for the delay.

Wanna learn bike handling on the road?
Get a fixie and go bombing downtown at rush hour.
fixed 49/16, no brakes, no coasting, fast as you can go between cars, pedestrians and trains. Red lights and cross traffic can be scary, look as far down as you can for a zigzag break then turn with them and shoot through.
bike lane is the most dangerous place to be, parked cars pulling out our opening doors, pedestrians jump from behind trucks.
You'll learn quick route decisions and bike handling really fast, or end up on someones hood.

Heres a good vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmHRnA780WM

Sounds like a great way to build up more anti-cycling sentiment. Just what I was looking to do.

All in good fun. And living in downtown Denver proper, bicycles aren't allowed on the sidewalks (you'll get a ticket in a flash), and the bike lane, aka "suicide chute" is about as dangerous as it gets, my friend. The street is all there is, and if you intend to make it anywhere, it's best to be very aggressive, traffic down here is stressful come 5:30pm and people aren't too keen on giving any other cars, pedestrians or cyclists room on their way home, so you've gotta take it. It's better to be seen as an @s$h0l3 than not seen at all and get run over.
Luckily Colorado is extremely outdoor focused in population and government, so there doesn't have to be a lobby of people to parade for cycling. It just is. That's why you see huge groups of cyclists running the mountain highways on the 6 inch shoulder and people give them wide berth, and groups of fixie riders tearing up the streets downtown with very few annual collisions.

Garage expansion! I rode it into work today, and can't wait to get dirty with it!

That's a fun bike. Never ridden a Cross bike. But, I love MTBs. My ribs don't ever hurt from sneezing today. So, they are getting better. Time for more pushups and planks so I'll be in shape for the MTB.

A lot of cross riders don't even mtn bike, they are roadies that race cyclocross in the winter time and there bike handling skills are not the same as a mtn biker.

IMO riding cyclocross bikes on mtn bike trails is not nearly as fun as mtn bikes on mtn bike trails :)
That summarizes it completely.

Nice. How did you do?
Not entirely sure, but I think I got my first DFL. Cat3's were fast, I wasn't just quite there today. Just a few seconds slower each lap, times 12 laps adds up. Oh well, my list of things to work on for next year is pretty set right now, so I'm glad I got the experience and still had a great time.

Although someone did yell at me for taking a beer handup on the last lap and swerving all over the course. :D:eek::rolleyes:
