If you don't want to use the dvd player, here is a 6-disc Onkyo for $149 shipped: http://www.jr.com/onkyo/pe/ONK_DXC390/

Single disc units are usually high-end models, due to the fact that people just don't need them. Most just use their dvd player.

The player you listed is higher priced because it plays SACD as well. SACD is cool, if you feel you want to get into that. However, If you were to go the SACD route, I would recommend a universal blu-ray player.

I won't be doing any of the SACD. I'm looking for a reliable player for around $300-400.00.

I have the C-S5VL and like the design, features and SACD playback. Got a good price on it as well. However the other suggestions are sound ones.

No need to spend that much on a stand alone cd player if you don't want SACD/DVD-A IMO. You didn't like the Onkyo I linked in post #5?

What's wrong with the one you have now? Is it broken, on the way to break? If nothing, keep using it.

I was checking out a NAD c 515bee and the salesperson said,"I recommend using high quality RCA patch cables to connect the player to the receiver, such as the following cables from AudioQuest" for $39.00. Are these cables necessary? Why could the ones with the cd player work as well?

What he meant to say is that the sales person is making $$$ off you hence the recommendation.
That RCA you have or comes with it is just fine and works just dandy.:D
