Yamaha RX-A1000 Aventage Receiver First Look

I bought another brand of HDMI cables & had the same thing. (BTW - The new Belkin High Speed HDMI 1.4 cables you can get on Amazon.com are really sweet! They look & sound better than the Mediabridge Hi Speed 1.4 I was using. A subtle but noticeable improvement in PQ & AQ that even the wife noticed!)

there are a lot of receiver and pre/pro's out there that aren't able to provide the full voltage required by that spec either....

I'm thinking the RX-A2000 has low voltage output for the sub signal?

Have you tried more than one sub with the A2000?

Also, YPAO should be throwing an error after you run it saying the Sub level is set too low (assuming it isnt making enough noise). Have you tried raising the trim on the AVR and gain on the sub, then raising the volume while playing some bassy music so see if you get ANYthing from your sub?

I don't understand why the Belkin HDMI cables perform better than the Mediabridge but they do. I would think that audio bitstream is bitstream. You either get it or you don't. Perhaps the Belkin can pass the bitstream with fewer errors? I'm not sure how the video works - is that bitstream too?

In any case, the Belkin does both Audio & Video better. I did side by side comparisons using "Alice in Wonderland." And the Belkin doesn't cost much more than the Mediabridge so its not like I spent a fortune and have a financial psychological bias towards the Belkin. Can any HDMI cable experts out there explain how one HDMI cable is better than another?

The RX-A1000 has dual sub output jacks on the back. I set my subs cross over to Max and volume to half. YPAO took care of the rest. It nailed the 80HZ crossover perfect but I had to set the fronts to small.

Ive disconnected everything, flashed the firmware to 2.05 and then reconnected everything/re-setup everything. Now the subs are SINGING! Thanks everyone for all your input and help. Only weird thing now is the humming is still there. I realized from fiddling around that it only is there when the cable box is connected to the tv or receiver (either with HDMI or component). If i disconnect the cable box everything is perfect. Is this a result of my RCA splitter from radioshack being too cheap and not shielded enough? Been swamped with work... can't wait until this weekend to calibrate and play with the system. Thanks everyone! You guys ROCK!

AHHHHHHHH JYEAHHHHHH !!!!! Isn't is an awesome feeling when you get your system working that you worked so hard for and paid so much $$$ for?!?!?!? I felt the same way after I paid for my speakers on kijiji and later my 565 yammy on a payment plan, then a couple weeks later my MA sub on kijiji again....only to have the sub not working for a couple weeks....then, on my own, as a last resort, I flashed the FW, and then everything worked, only to be called a liar by so-called "experts" online and telephone yammy techs.... glad I could help........ it certainly is great to feel the walls bulging to "the Humpty Dance" ! lol....

Yamaha RXA-1000 and Wireless Headphones

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a wireless headset. It can connect via RCA jacks that run to a broadcasting unit that sends the wireless signal to the headphones. Its easy to get the headset to work with the main surround sound speakers playing but the goal is to turn off the speakers and be able to use the headset. I was thinking I should be able to use Zone 2 audio out but cant seem to turn the volume up in zone 2 and have zone 1 go on mute or low volme. Any ideas? I wanted to set up a a scene for the PS3 using headphones for quick recall. Same for NET radio.

• PS3 - most of the time I'll be using this as the sound source. Its connected with HDMI to the RXA-1000. I also listen to Net radio which would be great late at night via the wireless headphones.

Just a note that Yamaha's web site notes that zone 2 can not be used with digital inputs. VERY ODD. So, NET radio works fine through the headset on Zone 2 but I can use the PS3 or Blueray player as inputs on Zone 2.

RX-A2000 Zone 2 and Optical Out problems

Hi all,
I just got my RX-A2000 yesterday and spent the evening in bliss connecting everything. Once connected up, it told me of an firmware upgrade to 2.05 which went smoothly (in not slowly). As compared to my old Onkyo NX-TR801, it sounds fantastic... especially the subwoofer... the Onkyo never seemed to use the sub for music content, only for LFE...

However, the main reason for may posting here is that the Optical Output does not seem to work... regardless of the input selection (ie AV1, AV2, etc). One of my main reasons for getting the A2000 as compared to other models was the Optical Out which I use with my Sony Surround sound wireless headphones... Any suggestions on this? I haven't seen anything in the manual or online about this optical out...

The other thing is that the Zone 2 / 3 outputs do not seem to work. I have speakers in another room and this is another main feature of the system that is heavily used. So far, regardless of Amp assignment to Zone speakers they remain silent regardless of the source selection (ie AV1, AV2, Audio 3, 4, etc). I will note that the AV inputs are HDMI, but the Audios are conventional R/L analog... so should seem to work with Zone outputs. Any suggestions?

I really hope this is just operator error and not a defective unit.

I'm amazed.

I bought the RXA800, a model below the 1000. And after a tough learning curve of using it and picking settings that work best, I'm astonished by the sound quality of a mid level cost uniut. This receiver is in a medium size room with Energy CF50 towers as the main and Energy CS5 as the surrounds with a Definitive pro 1000 sub.

I agree with an earlier post, the receiver allows you to blend the sub very well.
And I have my main left right speakers bi-amped using the presence amplifiers.
This receiver sounds is only rated at 95 watts per channel, but 95 very clean watts. Yamaha seems to be one of the only manufacturers that states .008
total harmonic distortion all channels, 20 to 20. So it plays fairly loudly
with no ear fatigue. I love it except for one thing. No printed manual.

And best of all....HDMI pass through when its off.

RX-A1000 network cabilities

Hello Audioholics,

I'm new here so here goes:
My name is Doug and I have an audio addiction problem.

I am a heartbeat away from getting an RX-A1000 but I am wondering about network capabilities. I want to be able to access my music stored on a hard drive on my computer with it. Is this built in to it, or do I still need a slimbox or some other similar extra POS to get that to work? Recommendations appreciated.

PS: I have an RXV661.
Pros: Great power
Cons: Only two HDMI inputs, no 3D, no network. Zone two operation causes the amp to apparently cycle a big power relay to turn on the other zone in a really clunkie rinkie-dink way. No on screen display on the TV. I actually miss the knobs on the front of the old stereo receivers that made operation significantly more intuitive. Especially when using the radio

Rxa-1000

I just replaced my old Yamaha RXV 496 (about 10 years old) with a Yamaha RXA- 1000. I set it up with the Ypao mic. It sounds crappy. I reset it manually and had it sound a bit better. I have my HD pvr connected with an HDMI still does not sound near as good as my old receiver. Also I have my Blu-ray connected with HDMI. It doesn't sound that good either, even with DTS HD master. Is there a setting I am missing? I set the sub to max in the manual speaker menu and still had to turn up the volume on the sub itself to get a reasonable amount of bass. Can someone help me? or do I need to return it and go back to my old receiver?

It's not snake oil. I took a foot from an old broken receiver tonight, and added it under my 3808CI. Wow! The stereo image is vastly improved, and the bass is much firmer. Denon really has a lot to learn from Yamaha. Tomorrow, I'll take the other 3 foot, and stick it under my Denon for a total of 8. I think Krell can put their pants back on and take a hike.

I don't doubt that you really think you are hearing a difference but its been determined that sighted tests are very biased and open to suggestion. I may believe you if you experienced this in a controlled DBT test when you the listener was not able to determine when the the 5th foot was present or not.

First, you're not alone, Audyssey failed me as well. I'm sure you have a great preamp, just a lot of work ahead of you setting it up.
I think the preamp vs amp quality curves have crossed a few years ago. Receivers used to have great amps and Power Supplies and crappy preamp/processor. Today, it's great preamps with crappy amps/PS.
Many people here have already understood that, but I believe the way to go from this point is a separate power amp (hooked to the receiver pre-outs) for the front.
You're upgrading the important (the front), the wimpy receiver amp is plenty for surround. And you stop paying for a powerful amp from now on, just upgrading preamp/processor with the cheapest mid-range receiver (of a good brand) with pre-outs.

To assist in getting a better result using YPAO, set all of your speakers to small manually and skip speaker sizeing from the YPAO test suite. Also ensure that wiring is checked to ensure none of your speakers are wired out of phase. Try it again. Its very important that you keep the room as quiet as possible while YPAO is runnning.

Multi-channel question

I was wondering if anyone could give me a tip on how to select a video signal to use when the multi-channel input is engaged. When I push the multi button it goes to that input, but I can't figure out how to use the video signal coming from my Blu-ray player. This doesn't work the way it has in previous yamaha receivers that I have owned. The manual says it can be done, just not how to do it.

Confuse and wonder how to connect AVENTAGE RX-A1010 for my BOSE Acoustimass 16 Series

I'm wonder and confuse with how to connect my 6.1 sound system with AVENTAGE RX-A1010.

I didn't see any Center Rear (CR) at the Back Panel of AVENTAGE RX-A1010.

There are only Front (L & R), Center, Surround (L & R), Surround Back (L & R).

Which one I should connect?

If you look under the posts for the surround back pair I believe you'll find that the left channel has "SINGLE" written below it. Use this for your single surround back speaker.
