Polk Monitor50 floorstanding speaker advice

Hey guys, I was just wanting to know if anyone has heard these, or thinks it is a good deal? I have an Onkyo TS-SR308 5.1 65w/ch in a room about 12x10'. I am also looking into a sub at the same time. I was thinking of starting with these since they are cheap. The center chan. is 60 on newegg along with the bookshelfs around 80/pr.

My budget is around 900 total. I have the receiver. I can get all the 5 surrounds for 400ish then Im going to spend around 500 on the sub

That's a great price for a decent entry level tower. Don't expect a ton of bass from them but again the price is very good and you'll have a subwoofer to handle the bass so it really doesn't matter. What I can't tell you is whether or not you'll like them. Speakers are highly subjective and what I like you may hate or the other way around. For comparison purposes I'd put Infinity's Primus P162 bookshelf ($85ea shipped from Crutchfield) at roughly the same level. Both are discontinued models that have been replaced by virtually identical but higher priced versions. What I would do it spend this afternoon researching who in your area sells both and then spend a few hours listening and see which you like better.

For the subs I'd contact Hsu Research and Elemental Designs with your room dimensions and have them size you a sub.

rather than spend the 900 on mediocre 5.1 i think you're better off getting a great 2.2

Maybe a pair of Infinity 363s paired with two emotiva ultra sub 12s

I agree with sholling, I have the 162's used as surrounds and they sound good, I believe 3 162's as your front stage and two for side surrounds would make for an excellent system patnered with the Onkyo, they are easy to drive and being all timbre matched would give I believe a nice well blended sound. As for the sub, I have the new Epik Legend subwoofer ($500) right in your budget and can tell you I am amazed what this dual driver sealed sub can do. I believe it would have a easy integration with the 162's. Hope this helps.

That's also a good idea, the 363's are floorstanders, I forgot to mention with the 162's that you will need stands which adds to your budget. I still like the 362's with a single Epik Legend for now. No offense Grant.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have some stands at home. Since I won't be moving out for 3 more months I think I am just going to wait. I did read into those 162's and I think I may go that route.
