Finally got word that the replacement amps were in, well actually a week ago, so today I took my beloved Ultra apart. Once the screws were removed the amp didn't want to come freely, and I didn't want to pry it out with a screw driver :)eek:), so I came up with this tool!

Its the small sink type, not one used in the potty!;) Next is the amp and the inside. I was pretty surprised actually, on how much the amp didn't weigh, good for shipping anyway. SVS should get mine on Wed (live in Ohio), but it will be a stretch for me to get it done by the end of the week.

i should get one of those amp removal tools.

seriously though, did that really work? i use a strong bent wire in the screw holes to pull the amp out.

It worked like a charm. I couldn't get a hold of it with my fingers anywhere to get a grip on it to tug, and didn't want to pry on it from the edges. Also used a suction cup from my Garmin GPS mount when my son was taking apart his wife's iPhone when it got water in it.

After nearly 3 years my original BASH amp died and I had to replace it. Looks like you got more wire from the driver. Mine were so short I had to splice another 8" on to make the replacement.

with the slack they have on the wires, i'd say SVS has a secret group of people all 3" tall that just use the port to get out. :D

That's why the new Sledge amps cost more, the 3" workers went on strike.

This reminds me of why I prefer unpowered subwoofers. I was disappointed when SVS stopped making unpowered versions. (I have a pair of unpowered SVS CS-Ultra subwoofers.) If I were ever going to buy a new subwoofer, I would send them an email and ask if they would be willing to make a couple of cylinder Ultras for me without a built-in power amp (and without a hole for it). Power amps are easy to get, and I have several that would work for powering subwoofers (like the one I am using now to power my CS-Ultras).
