If only locksmiths weren't so damn expensive

Obviously this chick doesn't know that if YOU set the fire, not only does your insurance not cover it, YOU get to pay for the fire department's time.

Locksmiths aren't that expensive unless you have unpickable locks like my garage does. Why do I know this? The breaker shorted for my garage and the junction panel is INSIDE the garage, so I couldn't get the main door open. When we bought the place, all the other locks had been matched, apparently with the exception of the garage... Dude came out and said he could pick most locks in a few minutes, but he already knew when he saw this one that it wasn't going to be easy. After about 20 minutes, he said he couldn't do it and would have to drill it out.

Cool. Didn't know they made unpickable locks. What makes it unpickable?

Not really unpickable, just much more difficult to pick. He said something about how the tumblers work is different so the normal tools don't work as well.

My mom broke her key off in the front door one time. Instead of setting the house on fire, we broke the window :)

Always good to have a spare set so you don't have to start the house on fire.

In our case, we never had a copy of the key to the side door on the garage, so I couldn't make a copy :) I had one of those plastic wallet keys for my previous car and it actually came in handy once. I have a little credit card thingy that you slip keys into and I keep that in the wallet as well....just can't ever lose that wallet because it has the address

the one in my wallet, is taped to my health insurance card.

did you hear the story about the school principal. he lost the only set of keys to the school !!! rekeying and security = $10,000.

a spare set of keys = $10

This seems to be the more common solution to this type of problem.

I wouldn't even break a window, that sounds extreme to me, lol... Thats a lot of work to fix a window. There was a gentleman from new Jersey {I believe could have been new york, I dont remember exactly} that a few years ago locked himself out and tried to go down the chimney, he ended up stuck in there for a couple days and they had to demolish a good portion of the house to get him out, but the worse part is he ended up loosing both of his arms and going partially blind, he was in there upside down and almost dead when they found him... Worse part is the firemen kicked the door in to get in the house, a relative put 2 and 2 together when they were looking for him, the ladder to the roof was a dead giveaway....
