Hey guys, new here... just wondering what the best receiver for my setup would be.

I just order a pair of Polk Monitor 60's and a CS1 for upfront along with Monitor 30's for the rear (no .1 yet, however i would take recommendations on that as well)

I have a 600$ dollar credit at Visions.ca here in Canada where I would like to purchase the receiver. I'm willing to spend 200 bucks more for a total of around 800+taxes, if its worth while. I had my eye on the Pioneer 1020k...

The prices are quite a lot higher than in the states however I should be able to knock even the listed sale prices down 75-100 bucks.

Below is a link to the receivers that Visions provides (sorry I can't link it due to forum rules):

Thanks,

Oh yeah, I'll be using it for:

25% music with an iphone or laptop (HDMI)
75% HD TV (HDMI) / movies (HDMI) / games (PS3(HDMI))

Thanks again,

si

The Polk's will be fairly easy to drive, so the Onkyo SR608 would be a good choice, or the RC260 (I'm not sure what Onkyo left out in this slightly lower priced version).

The SR508 could be the "low end" and the H/K 2600 the "high end" of your budget range.

That's kinda all over the map!

Onkyo SR608 looks like the best set of features, however I'm wondering how it stacks up against H/K AVR2600.

The SR608 also needs an extra docking station for an ipod (around 69.99 +shipping +taxes was the cheapest, likely near 100.00$)

Using the USB port on the H/K AVR2600 can I just plug in my iphone and have it play? if so that might be the cheapest over all solution...

I guess that's what was one of the nicer options of the 1020, however it has a lower real word amp rating, and also fewer features.

Hmm... need the Harman Kardon Bridge III for an ipod / iphone @ 129.99

Still think this is the best deal in long while if you dont need 3D (who really does now).....37 Lb quality amp with preouts.....good unit for the $....makes me wish I needed a receiver now....
I'm in Canada, and I would like to use my credit at visions to keep costs down :\

I live in Canada too and do not think much of the pricing of electronics up here. You should really look South of the border. I get most of my electronics from down there.

Here is a comparison for you based on the Onkyo 608 (assuming you live in Ontario):
Visions.ca: $660 + $85.80 HST = $745.80
Bhphotovideo.com: $379 + $72.51 Duties & HST + $58.04 Shipping = $509.55

With both dollars at parity that is an easy decision for me, of course I do not have a store credit.

You do realize that any warranty work you may need is now null and void here in Canada. You'll have to bring the units back down to the states as no Canaidan dealer will support you.

So the Onkyo SR608 or the H/K AVR2600?!

Do they have comparable specs, is one better than the other? which has the best audio?

The HK is a little more however I do prefer the looks of it...

I would go with the Pioneer you are considering. Normally, I would also consider Yamaha, Denon, and Marantz, but the place where you have the store credit does not appear to carry those brands. I would get the Pioneer VSX-1020-K.

Yes, I do realize that there is the warranty issue. Thank you for brining it up. The OP also needs to consider that along with the cost for a potentail return. For me personally it is a non-issue with Skype, Kinek and a car at my disposal, but other people may look at it differently.

Harman Kardon's room correction is an unknown to me and I wonder how it compares to Audyssey 2EQ?
