New TV/ Is 3D worth it?

Hey all, I'm seriously considering upgrading my display (and my receiver but thats for another thread), and from what I can tell, upgrading from a 50+ inch 1080p LCD LED or Plasma to a 3D version of the same display will cost about $400 min, and then add at least $200 for a pair of glasses. I'm pretty impressed with how good a set I can get for $2000 as it is, but am interested in 3D is worth the extra change. How long until there is really a decent amount of 3D content out there? Is it really that mind blowing? I know I need to check it out somewhere, but I'm overseas right now and doing most of my research online.
Anyone out there with a 3D set who absolutely loves it?
Any and all advice is welcome and yes my new receiver will support 3D, I'm only trying to decide between Pioneer and Yam at this point...

Thanks for the quick responses. I didn't see that article posted before, but it makes alot of sense. I think you just saved me $400 bucks. Now should I keep it in my pocket, or step up my new receiver to one with more power...hmmm

I really was impressed with the effect, but the cost doesn't justify the end result IMO. The simple fact that there are only about 5 stereoscopic 3D movies available should also be a HUGE deciding factor

Its just a GIMMICK with potential risks for health issues later on the road.

A percentage of people are 3D blind, their brain is not wired to see the image. Other can become sick or have a head ache. Still others have no side effects at all. I'm in the no side effect camp.

I would not have bought a 3D set except my wife really likes 3D and I admit I have become a fan. Collage football is great in 3D and more broadcast 3D is coming online all the time. Two new channels last week.

There are dozens of quality 3D movies and there well be many more released in the coming year. I'll have Avatar 3D in two weeks

Only you can decide if 3D is worth the extra cost. The glasses can be a pita but the new 2nd gen glasses are an improvement. 3D sets well generally have superior 2D PQ. I have a Panasonic P65VT25 and I feel it's worth the price. Best PQ I have ever viewed, either 3D or 2D.

I was gearing up to get one, and fortunately a friend beat me to it. we watched 2 movies in a row, and got a killer headache. I dont know if thats normal or not for a lot of people, but ill pass on that.
