I have one Bose sub woofer with 8Ω and 200W with 110dB-SPL. It is a part of a my PA system. What features of amplifier (details) should i look for for safely using my Bose sub woofer. Since i cant afford to purchase a standalone powered amplifier for my pa system, i intend of using a car amplifier to power my single Bose MB4. Any suggestions on numbers and models?

  :( I.. I'm at a loss for words.

Okay after reading that again, you're not as crazy as I thought. I initially thought you were trying to put an acoustimass into the trunk of your car to use for PA application... i was like "wtf".

Don't bother with a car amp, there's some affordable Pro Audio amps out there. Car amps are designed for use in cars.

This one will give you 350 wpc into 8 x 2 ch ohms - more than enough!

If those PA amps are overkill, there's still plenty-fine sub amps you can get.

For example this BASH plate amp will give you ~250-300w into 8 ohms

All you have to do is mount it somewhere.

If you're planning to use the Bose woofer with a car amplifier someplace other than in a car, using a DC power supply, don't bother. A good DC power supply that can provide enough current without voltage drop will cost more than a pro-sumer or even a real commercial amplifier and the amplifier will probably have a crossover, compression/limiting and several other control features built into it. If you plan to use a battery and charger, it would work for short periods but the charger will cause the battery to become warm while under demand and unless the battery is completely sealed, this can be dangerous because it could leak electrolyte (acid) and the bubbles you may have seen in a battery being charged are Hydrogen, which is extremely flammable/explosive.

related question

Lol, those are some really good choices for my budget. Yeah, im certainly not buying a car amp and an external power converter, which i think would cost me more. I actually plan to use this for indoors, so i was thinking of a cheaper alternative.

but i have a related question too. Talking about the most safest solution, how much minimum watts must i look for in an amplifier when purchasing one? Can it be exactly the sub-woofer wattage or how much more. Just to get the best bang for the buck.
