Surrounds for my Energy Encore2?

I bought a set of Energy Encore2 and the matching sub about 7 years ago and now want to use these in a surround system. According to Energy, the closest match to these are the Energy V-mini speakers. I'm not looking for anything spectacular so I don't want to go overboard. Would something like the work for a surround?

I would like to make sure whatever I get matches closely to the existing speakers I have (or maybe this doesn't matter for the rear surrounds?).

I had all the links in this post to the above speakers but forum rules say I have to have a post count of 5 or higher to post links....sorry...

Whether it matters for rear surrounds depends on your usage.

If you use your speakers to listen to SACD type orchestral recordings and need perfect timbre matching, dynamics, and detail then i recommend five identical tower speakers that can dig down to 60 hz paired with a pair of subs that can dig down to 17 hz =P

But i'm willing to bet you just want to watch movies :p

As long as your front 3 are the same as each other, and your surrounds are the same as each other, you should be fine. The angle to which the sound hits your ear has enough effect on timbre that it doesn't sound unnatural to have a slight variation in timbre. I wouldn't go with polar opposite speakers or anything but anything close will be perfectly fine. Our ears are a lot more sensitive to changes in timbre in front of us, which is why having the LCR be the same is a good idea.

Thanks for the reply, and yes you are right....just using this to watch movies :)

I don't have a center speaker yet, but I will stick with Energy for that so as to keep the front speakers the same (Energy makes one called V-MINI-C).

Energy makes a surround speaker called the CR-10 that might fit the bill.

Is moving the encore 2s to the back an option, so that you can get whatever truly matches with that center?

Yup, I could certainly do that. I haven't bought the center yet, just have the two sat's and the sub, so I'm still flexible.
