I am looking buy some new speakers for a receiver that i bought a Denon AVR-3311.
Planning to spend about 3K for a 5.1 setup.
Could any of you help me decide one ?

I have been doing some research and some listening at local stores and could not place my finger on one of them.
The ones that i listened to and liked

DefTechs, B&Ws, Klipsch-RF83s and an old La Scala (2k/pair 10 year old)

One main thing is i am moving to India in about a month and would like to have this in about 3 weeks. So any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot
Sam

Well i recommend dropping a couple hundred on pair behringer 2031ps to use as surrounds and then getting a nice sub like the Rythmik FV15HP or something. Then see what you've got left in your budget for the front three.

How many speakers are you looking for 5, 6, 7,?

Do you want a sub included in that dollar amount?

The La Scalas are great (if you like the horn sound) for a stereo and don't require much power to drive them to gawd awful loud levels, but may prove difficult, if not impossible, to (timbre/sensitivity) match with a center and surrounds, not to mention their brobdingnagian size.

Even so, they don't plumb the depths of the audio range (see specs here) that deeply. You would still need a sub for the lowest octave or so. Also, finding a sub to play as loudly as them would be a very, very expensive proposition.

My budget is 3000 for the front 3, 2 surround and the sub, but could stretch it to 3.5K. You are right the LaScala are so loud my subwoofer budget alone would reach more 1.5k in that case :(

Since you already know what sounds good to you, look at Hsu and SVS subs. They are both very good. Find a good powered one from the middle/upper end of the range and note it's cost.

Now, look at matched sets of speakers from the manufacturers you mentioned. I suggest a pair of towers for the front, a matching center and a pair of smaller (bookshelf sized) matching* rear surrounds.

Make sure the five speakers are from the same line from that manufacturer.

* For HT, it's not imperative the rears match, but the front three most definitely should. For multi-channel music, they should match the fronts.

Update

Hi Guys

Thanks a lot for the replies.

Here is what i have finalized and placed an order so far.
I loved the Vienna Bach 7s
I bought the Vienna Acoustics Bach Grand 7 Front speakers closeout with a matching Theatro for the center from Magnolia.
I picked up the VTF-3 MK-3 for the sub.
Still trying to see if i can get any matching rears with the vienna, so far no luck.

Thanks for helping me in the selections.... Please let me know if anything that would match with the Bach 7 for the rear.
Other thing is i have Audssey support with my Denon receiver does that mean i can buy any good rear surrounds and that my receiver try to balance it out.

thanks
Sam

Congrats!

I've heard a lot of good things about Vienna Acoustics speakers.

And HSU subs are always good.

If it's primarily for HT, then yes, a good set of bookshelfs should be fine.

Don't forget to consider ID brands like Axiom and Aperion who may have speakers you like.
