Hi guys, i have a set of black piano finish Yamaha NS-555, NS-C444, NS-333 and SW315 but they're covered in fine circular scratches probably caused by dust when i'm cleaning them

is there any way to cover or smooth out the fine scratches on the glossy black piano finish without causing damage or more scratches?

help appreciated!

What are you cleaning them with to cause scratches. You could try refinishing or touch up work, but a piano finish isn't exactly easy.

Swirl remover is available from 3M and Maguire's. It's paint that can, and probably has been, buffed and polished.

That's the one reason I don't like piano black.

Thanks for the replies, will the swirl remover cause any change to the colour or damage the finish?

Swirl remover pretty much just adds finer scratches, which is all polishing is. Short of refinishing, I don't think you have many choices. Ask a piano shop on tips for proper cleaning and perhaps some kind of wax or cleaner might fill them in enough to make them not visible. This is the reason why I also don't like piano gloss finish.

No. Look at a car that has no swirls or fine scratches in the paint and i can just about guarantee swirl remover has been used.

Practice on an inconspicuous area first.

Hi, might you know what kind of finish the NS-555 has (e.g lacquer etc) as i'm also considering a scratch remover for plastic and acrylics from Novus which some claims to work

do you have any brands of swirl remover you'd recommend?

I mentioned 3M and Maguire's in my post- body shops all over use these.

For my cars, I use Meguiars #9 Swirl Remover. If Scratch-x is similar, it should work.

As far as Novus or any other plastic polish, I would contact the manufacturer before using it on lacquer or other paint. Also, follow the instructions- most of the polishes and swirl removers are made to be applied and used with a machine because it's heat that does the work- the friction softens the finish enough to smooth it out and heavier grit is for cutting through the high spots.
