Well, I took the wife on her first off road ride yesterday. I picked a pretty easy trail that was a level 1-2, 8 mile single track loop. Right off the start this track has a couple of nasty dry river bed crossings which I explained to her before we started. I told her when we got there to just walk her bike up and down this section and then the rest would be a lot easier.

When we got to the section, a bike club was doing a beginners women's riding clinic and they were practicing the section. Carolyn decided she wanted to watch for a while so I jetted to the other side so I would be out of the way. We watched several crashes and I was freaking out knowing this was the last thing she needed to see 1/2 mile into the ride. I expected her to tell me to come back as we were loading the bikes and going home.

After about 15 minutes, she walked her bike through the first 2 sections and said she was ready. We took the first loop at a pretty slow pace. looped back to the car and she said "lets go again". She walked the first section again and then never got off her bike again! This time the pace was a very decent clip and she caught on quickly.

As soon as we loaded up and headed home she asked where we are riding tomorrow. I am so happy she enjoyed this as I had forgotten how much fun it is myself. Now we have a new activity we can enjoy together and get some great exersise at the same time.

I am very pleased that Greg F. posted the bike ad and said "get away from the strereo, get outside and go hurt yourself".

I will try to take some trail pictures today.

Here they are. It is Greg's back from here:

This was one of the easiest transactions I have had to date. Greg, despite all his tattoos(lol) is an outstanding guy. Thanks for all the help and the awesome bike!!!!

And being married now, cost me this for her:

Here was our ride today. A fun little track through the woods. We put in about 12 miles and had a blast.

looks like a fun track. Not too tech but not boring either.
Yesterday, I actually took her to a different track that I had never been to but we only went about a mike on it and it was just way too tech for her. It was really nasty loose rock and a lot of tight climbing. I could tell she hated it so I told her we would just walk back to the car and go back to the other track and that's what we did.

Nice. It's been really awesome weather recently, perfect for outdoor activities...I don't even know how to ride a bike though :D

Carolyn had never been off road until this weekend and she caught right on.

I have riding been for years but I quit about 5 years ago so I am pretty rusty. Most of it came right back to me. It helps to have a really good bike and have it set up properly.

The Rocky Mountain is really nice and handles like a dream. I just have to change out the coil spring in the fork as it has too much sag for my weight. My arm is about the same size as Greg F.'s torso...

Here is one more picture of Carolyn, I am so glad she is enjoying this.

My actual riding weight used to be ~190, I am a tad over 200 now but it will drop very quickly with a bike.

Don't have to hate just cuz you passed the 200 mark:D
Sorry that most bikes were designed for fellas around 170-180! You can't all be perfect though right:cool:

195.2 lbs this morning! This very old body of mine, still seems to respond quickly to diet and exercise. I was 206 at my honeymoon. I was lifting a lot before that so that is why my weight was up. I was right at 201 two weeks ago and I have been lifting lighter and faster along with a little cardio.

I can likely hit my riding weight in the next 2 weeks. I went ahead and ordered a stiffer spring yesterday so I will be good either way.

My bike rack came in yesterday, I slapped it on pretty quickly but I will go back over it today and make sure it is all secure before I stick the bike on it. It's cool as it fits my Murano and my Pathfinder

Dont forget to pull your bikes off before going into your garage! My buddy shattered his Pinarello carbon frame like that.

I rammed my Titus Racer X into the garage when I was distracted looking at a delivery box on the front step.

The bike survived perfectly, the Saris rack took a bit of damage, but the top of my Integra had four dents where the rack mounts sat.

My wife will not let me buy a roof rack because of that incident.

I have hit 2 garages like that.

Many years ago, I worked nights at a hospital, 7pm-7am. The only way I could return to a normal sleep pattern on my stretch off was to skip sleep that first day and go on a long off road ride.

I would be really tired before the ride and my mind wouldn't work well. One time , I loaded the bikes in the garage and backed out damaging the seats and post along with the rack and car.

The other time I was going to grab some breakfast at a drive through and hit the awning causing the same type of damage.

Both times, I stopped by the bike store, got new posts and went riding. I guess I am lucky that more damage didn't occur.

I am fully confident that I will repeat history.

How about making a sign saying "BIKES ON ROOF!!", and put it on the driver's sun visor when you get in. Dunno, might help...
