Why you hating on the extra leg? i'll have you know that after reading that article, the sound of my four legged marantz became absolutely belgian double chocolatey with just the right hints of cherry, oak, anise, mint, sherry, paprika, and fireplaces when I taped a pair of hockey pucks into the center.

Yamaha's DRC does control dynamic range but is less advanced than Dolby Volume. Dolby Volume does a far superior job especially for a loss-less stream such as DTS MA for late-nite watching. Dolby Volume actually has 2 parts, 1st part is the leveler and the 2nd is the modeler for frequency contouring.

thats weird casue i thought that yaha hdmi receivers were all dts and dolby capable?

My RX-A1000 just arrived today. I bought it from Amazon.com and it was delivered by UPS. They took good care of it. Not a mark on the box! I unpacked it and the unit is perfect!! Its pretty hefty and has a quality feel/look to it.

I'll try getting it hooked up tomorrow. I watched Gladiator (the second blu ray release which is spectacular) tonight on blu ray. I used my old Yamaha RX-V2095 which does a fine job with DTS HD Master Audio when using the analog outputs on my Blu Ray player.

I used my old Yamaha for this so I can see how the new Yamaha compares with the same movie. I'll keep you posted.

I find that the DRC does a great job in controlling dynamic range to reducing its effects as the volume increases. It may not have the frequency contouring but I've not heard anything missing from a sonic perspective at low levels from Yamaha's implementation when turning it on or off.

I'll be very interested as well. I'm not a big fan of Yamaha's XX95 series of receivers feeling they cheaped out to save a couple of bucks. Their new 1000 series holds much more promise.

Need a bit of help

Hello everyone,

OK, very new to the home theatre world. I recently ( 2 days ago) purchased a complete home theatre (Yamaha RX-A 1000, 5 mission speaker & 1 Velodyne Subwoofer)

Now, after much agony and grief, I believe I have everything set up properly... I think.

Issues:

1) I was watching Casino Royal last night and my receiver did not let me choose different sound field/sound programs. It simply defaulted to "straight" when I would press to change that to NEO 6, it would display NOT AVAILABLE on the receiver. Whats the problem???

2) I feel like I have so many remotes (tv, dvd, receiver, cable box) is there another option? Is there a universal remote that can handle all of that?

3) I will explain my set up so anyone can maybe give me input on certian mistakes I have made

I have 1 HDMI cable running from my bluray player to my receiver. Then I have another HDMI cable running from my receiver to my tv. Lastly, I have a coax cable running from my cable box to my receiver (I use coax because I do not have an HD box, therefore I do not have an HDMI plug. Also, I always have to turn my cable box off when I watch a movie or play music otherwise I get the sound from the cable box/tv. How can I change that?


I am sorry for the long post, but I am so confused with all this. Please try to keep it simple when explaining.

I know you've read the the manual but try looking at the trouble shooting section. I've tried to down load the manual to take a look but I can't seem to get my mits on it. Check the menu of the DVD to ensure its selecting one of teh high rez audio tracks and not stereo. Its a quick and easy check. Also, I would go into the menu of your bluray player to make sure its outputting bit stream to the receiver and not down converting the sound track to stereo.

2) I feel like I have so many remotes (tv, dvd, receiver, cable box) is there another option? Is there a universal remote that can handle all of that?

Logitech makes a number of remotes. If you have a Siny playstation, get a model that does both R/F and IR .

Your connections for your BluRay player/Receiver/and Display are right.

Your cable box connections are questionable.
Does your cable box decode 5.1? Does it have any other type of outputs such as component or composite outputs? Does it also have any dedicated outputs for sound suchj as coax or TOSLINK?

When I watch tv the only way to have my back speakers working is to select "7 Channel stereo" Otherwise, I only have the 2 front a centre working??? Is it possible that regular tv channels do not offer 5.1 surround sound?

How do you have the cable box connnected? Have you changed trhe connections around since you opened this thread?

Dolby Tru HD and DTS HD Master ???( forget the exact name) can only be found onBlu Ray only and therefor are only used when playing that media.
That being said, the DSP sound fields should be able to generate some sound derived from the main channels and send them to the rear channels.

On my Yamaha RX-V1800, there is a menu option under volume menu called ADAPTIVE DSP LEVEL Use this feature to make fine adjustments of the DSPeffect level (see page 68) automatically in conjunction with the volume level.

Dumb question.. Did you run the YPAO on your reciever?

when in multichannel mode, you cant select those. It says so right in the manual. What you have to do is select a movie mode, then hit option, and change the surround field.

Ok everyone - I've had a couple of weeks to test this out. I'm giving it a thumbs up! Before hooking it up, I read the entire manual. This is supplied on CD. No hard copy. At first I hated that but now I like it. Getting it hooked up and tweaked out was easy. The YPAO really wasn't all that great. It got the foundation put down but then I had to set my cross over (80hz) and speaker size (small) manually. It did a nice job of measuring the distances and sound levels. It indicated an out of phase speaker because my rear sub was confusing it. I wasted a lot of time figuring that out.

This amp is much more musical than my old RX-V2095. The sound is more detailed and nuanced. I hear better quality in blu-ray, TV and satellite. I know its not my imagination because even my wife noticed it - and shes usually oblivious to anything A/V! For me, sound is key and thats why this amp is a winner. To really crank a movie, I run it at 0db. (My room is big) Anything more is getting too loud. Most of the time it ranges from -25db to -10db. I wish it had a few more watts but to get that I would have to upgrade to the 2000 and I don't want/need the video processing that comes with the extra horsepower. I think my RX-V2095 has a little more "grunt," but this amp sounds much better.

My only issue right now is getting the HDMI sync working with my TV and blu ray player. So far no luck and I've tried everything. I also can't get the ARC (audio return channel) working. Neither one of these are deal breakers but they would be nice to have as advertised. I'm going to have to place a call to Yamaha.

This amp can do a lot. I'm only using a fraction of its capability. We watch TV & blu ray through it and listen to XM.

Gladiator was wonderful as was Alice in Wonderland. The Alice in Wonderland DTS HD master audio sound track was incredible and this amp sounded much better than the RX-V2095. Again, it seems more musical and sound is more detailed and nuanced. Thats what makes it a keeper for me.

rx a1000 remote code for universal remote

these posts have been VERY helpful....thanks to all..

Does anyone know what the RX A1000 receiver code might be when attempting to program that code into a universal remote? The old yamaha receiver codes(0176 and 1176) do not work...

I started setting up the receiver yesterday----for the most part, pretty smooth...a few obsevations:

1. The Zone 2 configuration is not intuitive---can be confusing---might have it right---need to play with it
2. I connected the unit to the network/router---it took a while for the unit to recognize it, but, now it is fully functional under the "net" and Net radio function--this is GREAT !...many stations to choose from---lessens the need to bring up internet radio sites to play on my PC...
3. set up the iPod dock....took a while to recognize the files/playlists, et al..now working fine...another reason I do not need to use the PC to play music---all good.
4. The FM Tuner antenna is useless---does not matter---I will not use FM anyway since I will get net radio sites..
5. The manual is really complex---had to read it many times before setting it up...I was able to get the .pdf for reference from Crutchfield..useful.

Hi guys, read thru the entire thread but haven't seen an answer to this:

I'm currently having the same trouble with my subs... I just upgraded to the RX-A2000 and have played around with the settings for over 3 hours going through all the options:

* All 5 speakers set to small with 80Hx cross over
* Both subs set as "on" as front and rear
* Tried both dual RCA and Y-splitter from PREOUT SUB
* Connected to my Klipsch KA-1000 amp which drives dual Klipsch KW-120's
* TV (HDMI #4): speakers work, subs do not
* XBOX (Component "c" + Optical "3"): speakers work subs do not
* Test tone: speakers work, subs just have a humming noise
* After three hours, I plugged everything into my old receiver and everything works fine.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated... Thanks guys

ugh, I went through this with my 565 and ended up upgrading the Firmware, after talking with yammy techs on the phone, e-mailing techs, etc etc...afterward, they said they never saw this problem before and firmware should not have made it work , and that is was probably one of my settings (basically calling me a liar). I have an engineering degree in computers of which a big part is electrical, so I am not a moron...I didn't change anything from the time I rewrote the FW, and then the sub worked with via LFE on AVR.
Things I tried before this were (like you already did):

• make sure sub is "on"
• make sure LFE is set to SWFR
• set speakers to small
• set XO to 80
• make sure cable is plugged into proper input on sub.

You obviously have done this correctly since it works with the other receiver...
Here are some other more advanced things I did:

• I tested the sub. Since I bought it used, I wanted to be sure it didn't "break" on the transit home. I won't get into how I did this since you already know the sub works.
• With the sub volume less than half, instead of connecting to the LFE - OUT of the AVR, I connected the sub to the AUDIO out of AVR. The subs XO will remove freq's above it. I then had great bass. This to me said there was problem with the LFE channel hardware or software.
• With the sub connected properly to the LFE OUT of AVR, after running YPOA, I thought the sub wasn't making ANY sound (like yours), but when I put my ear down in front of it, I could a VERY faint sound being produced...even with the gain all the way up on 100% on the sub. I re-ran YPAO a bunch of times with same results.

I was going to return it to the store, but decided, what the hell, lets flash the firmware and maybe that will fix it...and it did...immediately afterward, I ran YPAO, and low & behold...voila...I have bass & LFE...

Thanks for the input Cape. It's helpful to know someone else has gone through this frustration as well. I'll flash the firmware tonight and see if that helps. I was hesitant to flash it because someone else on the forums ended up with a brick... wish me luck!

yeah, I don't know how long I had the receiver before I finally got it working. I'd say over a month. I loved how the yammy techs didn't believe I had everything set up properly... I knew the manual inside out before I even bought the AVR, and knew it even more during the troubleshooting process. I know nothing made sense in the end, but it is what it is!! I believe there was a hiccup with the LFE s/w... I would take the sub cable, plug it into the audio out on the AVR, and would have bass...then I would plug it into the LFE out and then nothing...unless you put your ear in front of the woofer driver...you could hear faint sound.... Hope everything works out for you. Make sure you follow the instructions precisely! Good luck!

But at the same time, there are a lot of receiver and pre/pro's out there that aren't able to provide the full voltage required by that spec either. But that's not totally a design flaw on their part because those receivers will work with most of the subwoofers out there"

I'm thinking the RX-A2000 has low voltage output for the sub signal? Which really sucks because my 5 year old $300 yamaha reciever provides enough of a signal for the subs to work... I didn't really want to spend anymore on this system. Been saving for quite a while to get this reciever and the Klipsch Ultra 2 speakers/subs/amp, really BUMMER.

Anyone have any ideas for a cheap Pre-Amp that will do the trick?

Here is an update. I upgraded the firmware to ver. 2.05 from ver. 1.14. It was easy using the USB thumb drive. I still couldn't get HDMI switching & ARC to work right. They will work briefly but then I have problems with the decoder and/or speakers shutting off. I bought another brand of HDMI cables & had the same thing. (BTW - The new Belkin High Speed HDMI 1.4 cables you can get on Amazon.com are really sweet! They look & sound better than the Mediabridge Hi Speed 1.4 I was using. A subtle but noticeable improvement in PQ & AQ that even the wife noticed!) Next I called Yamaha. The help technician was an idiot & wasted my time and could offer no suggestions.

Aside from those annoyances, this receiver continues to grow on me. I like it more each week. Watching a 1080P Blu-ray movie in DTS HD Master audio is a real treat it sounds so crisp and clear.

I bought an extra identical Yamaha YST-SW100 subwoofer at Goodwill ($25.00) & integrated into my system. I now run dual subwoofers at the front wall at locations of 1/4 the room width per this web site recommendation. (see the sticky!) My LFE never sounded better and has some real crisp, tight punch & deep rumble! The YPAO did a great job of setting the sub outputs once I equalized them with my db spl meter.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this receiver. Its in a league all its own and really blows away my old RX-V2095! It feeds my new Panasonic 65" Plasma TC-P65S2 and the combo is dynamite! The PQ & AQ is better than what you get in a movie theater when running Blu-ray. My wife & I were just talking about how there is no need to go to movies anymore since our system is superior!
