Plasmas still offer the best bang for the buck and, to many of our eyes, the most accurate picture. Don't rule them out unless you prefer the picture of the "LED"/LCD TVs-which is generally fairly different than plasmas.

Plasma is the best current TV technology until OLEDs hit. It has the most realistic color and black levels. The only reason i wouldn't personally go with a plasma is if

1) I was planning to use the TV as a computer monitor
2) It's going to be in a sun facing ultra bright room with no blinds and used mostly in the daytime.
