Green Glue substitutes?

I'm considering doing a drywall/green glue sandwich to help cut sound transmission through the basement ceiling. It's all related to this renovation:

Anyway, I can't find green glue around here. Does anybody know if pretty much any acoustical sealant would do the job? Or, is there something extra special in the green glue formula?

Back in the old day, I used a 1/2" bead of Silicone caulk on the studs, or between layers. Let it dry for a few hours, or overnight. Then rock over it.

I would agree with using Ted. Great guy and very prompt.

Green Glue is an excellent product. There are other things out there but nothing that has proven to be as effective.

Like an wise man once posted about this topic:

"You can put peanut butter between drywall sheets and it will do something. We just don't know what, how much, where, and what is good vs bad."

With Green Glue, you know all of the above.

At least it didn't degrade to Skippy, Jif or Peter Pan :p

Then we'd have to do double blind testing....
