The URC MX-450 can be had for under 200, If you dont need RF, the R50.
But if I were to go with one of thos remotes will I be able to use that remote with my PS3 or no? If I cant I would have to stick with a Harmony remote type do to the fact that I have the addaptor for the PS3.

ps3 adapters convert IR signals. All ir remotes can work.

I see well thats good to know. But on the Harmony remote it reconizes the the PS3 and already has the codes set up, meaning on the remote it has like square, triangle, and so on. Ive never used any other universal remote other than the Harmony 880 are the ones you talk about just as good meaning set up wise and how easy they function? Because I dont want a remote that takes for ever to use. Ive had the old Sony big square gray one that I could never work and nor could my uncle who was a computer engeneer. So I guess what Im looking for is something that is like the Harmony as for as easy setting up.

URC is a remote control company(Harmony makes remotes as well as many other products). They OEM, make consumer, professional and commercial products. Here is Clint's comments on the 450. As for programming, you will need to learn it as with any remote. As for your PS3 buttons, they all can be programed;) May I ask you how long you have had your Harmony?

I'd strongly reccomend the Harmony One, you can get one on amazon.com for under $200, but if your 880 is having issues, call Logitech and complian that your remote isn't working and since it's out of warranty, they will give you 1/2 off any harmony remote from the logitech store, so you could score a One for $125+shipping.

It might be your cable box. I have a motorola (U-Verse) and at times is is slow to respond. I can tell the box received the signal from the remote because the power light on the box flashes, but for whatever reason it takes the box a while to perform the command.

If you do need/want a new remote I can recommend the ones I've used. For years I used a URC MX-850 in my main room, and I still use it in my bedroom. For the last year I have been using a harmony 900 in my main room. Both are fantastic remotes.

You can probably find the MX-850 online for around your price range now as it is a bit older model but be aware that there are additional costs. For example, if you need rf you have to buy a separate extender (more than $100). Also, the pc programming cable that came with my 850 was a serial cable which means i had to buy a usb to serial converter as well (another $40). Overall the 850 is a little more complicated to program but offers a higher degree of macro customization then the Harmony products. If this is important to you, I would recommend some internet research on the macro capabilities of the various remotes before making a purchase.

The harmony 900 on the other hand, comes with everything you need for rf and, in my experience, the 900's rf capability works a lot better than the 850. When I had my 850 in the main room, the rf extender seemed to always get flummoxed by external rf signals causing you to have to press commands multiple times before they would register (a pain when trying to stop your player or dvr from rewinding etc.). Ever since moving it to my bedroom (further away from the other electronic gizmos in my house) the 850's rf has worked fine.

In short, if you need rf and can afford $300 then I would opt for the 900. If you don't need rf then you could also look at the Harmony One ($200). My father-in-law has that remote and it works great as well.

Wow thanks alot I never thought about doing that I just figured like anything else if it was no good and out of warranty then just trash it. I will try to give them a call and see where I get and post back.

If you don't need the extender, get it anyway and sell it either on here, or some other forum or ebay/craigslist. Someone out there will want a good deal on it.

That's what they told me when I called up a while back, they only charged like $7.xx shipping which wasn't too bad, and it didn't take too long to ship. You can't go wrong with the harmony one, it's a fantastic remote, especially for 1/2 off MSRP.

Thinking bout going with the Harmony 1100 or the 900 in stead of the Harmony One, but not sure if its worth the money tho

The Harmony 900 and Harmony One are identical with two exceptions. First, the Harmony 900 can send both IR and RF signals. The Harmony One is IR only.

Second the Harmony 900 has a row of red, yellow, green, and blue buttons (I think these are used by many cable box and blue-ray player manufacturers -- although I am not quite clear on their functionality). The Harmony One does not have these buttons.

It basically boils down to whether you want RF or not. If not, save the money and get the Harmony One. If you do want RF then you can decide whether you want a one handed wand remote like the 900 or the tablet style like the 1100.

The one doesn't have the colored buttons, but you can program the touchscreen buttons to be used as the colored buttons. If you don't need RF, then save money and get the One. The 1100 is nice, but you need both hands to operate it, so I still prefer the One.
