Well,as Scotty would say...

Capt GMichael of the Star Ship Probinside.:D
He joined the Brownies and boldly went where no man had gone before.
She canna take it anymore, captain. . She's gonna blow!

Oh, as to the original question... Picard. QED.

Seriously, I have no life.
I liked the Capt. from the parallel universe, with the goatee, like Shatner wears in the new Priceline.com ad. That episode is why they used it in the ad, too. They probably figured only a few people would remember.

Kirk was the best in surviving a battle situation and for producing half breeeds thru the universe.

Picard was great at being Q's puppet. If I could come back after death, I want to come back as Q just so I can taunt humanity. :D

Janeway had great hair. What else can I say about her??

Picard, because he was essential to one of the greatest, if not very greatest, TV series ever IMO. Simpsons is up there too.

i tried ... very boring IMO.

also hard to explore space in a space station
Yeah the first few seasons are terrible. Once the dominion enter the equations things start to pick up.

N.B. Sub Commander T'Pol makes me wants to take my pants off at warp factor 10.

This is how I see them.

Kirk: Shoot first and ask questions later. A sort of frontier gunslinger who always does the right thing.

Picard: Smart and intelligent. A diplomat who got the most out of everybody and always found the best solution for all involved but a cunning fighter when the situation called for it.

Sisko: Cunning. Did what had to be done to do the right thing for all involved.

Janeway: A mix of Picard and Sisko. A deep rooted maternal instict to take care of her crew and to help those in need.

Archer: Kirk-Lite. Same qualities as Kirk, just not as over the top.

Sisko had the hardest job and became a god at the end of the series. Hands down the best finish, but he was stolen from Babylon 5 so doesn't count IMO. Picard was to theatrical. Kirk was too young IMO. Janeway was intelligent, but not really my cup of tea either. I'll just say Data was the best of the bunch in any series. Still I think Sisko was the best of the Star Trek bunch. He was a religious icon and went through a prolonged war.

Babylon 5 is still a better series than DS9 with far more depth. Though it does start slower.

I wouldn't say they are terrible, but yes, the series does get awesome later on.

The first few seasons were not terrible or pathetic, they were just average. Nothing special. Not as good as the following seasons. Kind of like how TNG got so much better after Riker grew his beard :)

Picard is the best captain. Kirk is a close second. Janeway was just annoying.

I cannot sit through an episode of DS9.

If it takes 3+ years to get the story built up, I would say that rates somewhere between terrible and pathetic.
Microwave society ruining potentially great shows. I prefer the novel show story line that builds up over several seasons. DS9 had some stellar episodes too. Like Hard Time. That was very well done. It gets really awesome towards the end with the War.

If we were talking 30 minutes or 3 episodes you might have a point, but if it takes the writers three full seasons, plus the addition of babe in skin tight clothing just to get going, there is a problem. Heck, the original series only ran for a total of three seasons and that was a good decade before many of us had microwaves and MTV.
