I exchanged my Romancas for some Paradigms and I'm very excited for tomorrow.

Here's what I got:
Fronts: Monitor 7's
Center: CC-190
Rears: Mini Monitors

I'm very excited to set up the new speakers tomorrow night :)
It seems that a lot of people here have the Monitor 7's. Thoughts?

I saw your other thread. I think this was the right choice and was what I was going to recommend :)

I agree, it is best to go with speaker companies that are well established and who we know for a certainty make good products like Paradigm.

Thanks everyone! I didn't even take the old ones out of their boxes - not that I could try them out anyways - and just exchanged them as soon as possible. I have to wait till tomorrow night to get home to check these new bad boys out, but am extremely excited!

After some listening, I've noticed that the Monitor 7's lack in midrange. They're also very bright!* Still sound really good though. I'm sure they'll get better after a break-in period. By the way, how do I do that? Do I just play some music for a few hours at a reasonable volume? I'm unable to use my rears at the moment, because I don't have enough speaker wire. When I get home tonight, I'll do some more listening, though!

Break-in will not change how they sound. Breakin is you becomming accustomed to their sound. If you don't like them, move up to the Studio series or try PSB's Image series.

I was always under the impression that it affects the way they sound. Also, my room makes music sound very bright anyways, as I had noticed with my Pioneers when I moved.

Some people claim it does but it falls into the category of snake oil.

I respectfully disagree. But I can't prove you're wrong. It's MHO that speakers do indeed "loosen up" with use and that in turn affects their tone. I've experienced it too many times over almost 50 years of playing guitar and owning amps (and audio systems) to believe otherwise. YMMV.

Fair enough! By no means are they bad sounding speakers, they're just not what I'm used to hearing in my room. I'll give them time though.

It is possible that the room reflections are strengthening the high frequencies which has the effect of the mid-range seeming subdued.

What does your room look like? Can you make some changes to add absorption (drapes, upholstered furniture, etc) or dispersion (potted plants, book or display cases, etc) to break up reflections.

I've heard the Monitor and Studio series. The Studio series definitely has higher extension which would probably make it worse in a bright room!

Try listening at a lower level just to see if the balance of sound improves.

If this be the case he may need to get some acoustic panels to place at the reflection points. This will indeed get some of that "brightness" under control.

I'm going to take some pictures tonight and put them up in the Member Systems Gallery, and you guys can see what the room looks like and give suggestions from there.

Also! I haven't put any stands on the speakers yet as I don't understand how to. The holes in the bottoms of the speakers are a lot smaller than the screws they come with. Just screw them in there? I would think that they would have already made the holes fit the screw sizes though...?

I respectfully disagree.. if those romancas were a better-sounding, well-built speaker, then who cares which brand is better known? Now if they were a worse speaker, then you go with the better speaker. Not the more well known brand, though, IMO.

I personally was kind of interested in knowing if the romancas were any good, especially since I live in Calgary myself.

I hated the high end on the romanca's. Sounded very shrill, even at low volumes. The high end on the Paradigms - while it is loud - is crystal clear.
PICS COMING SOON! :D

The monitor series line, do lack in midrange resolution. It doesn't
matter how long you listen - it will not increase the midrange
resolution.
