I am looking to upgrade to a middle of the road home theater system. I recently listened to a new PSB Image system and am impressed with the sound, quality and price of the system. I am looking to put together a 5.1 setup and am looking at the following package.

Fronts: PSB B5's
Backs: PSB B4's
Center: PSB C5
Sub: PSB sub sonic 5i

I also found a good deal on a Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver. I know PSB is a middle to upper level speaker and Onkyo makes a decent receiver. My concern is that the TX-SR608 wont be enough to push the PSB's.

Any thoughts or comments are welcome.

It should work fine. The PSB is a smooth sounding speaker and will
not give you ear fatigue. They work well for music and movies.

Going by my experience with the previous gen of Images, you will probably be fine. However, I have no idea just how different the newer gen is. But I say probably when I consider the typical listening volume, typical distance, and typical room.

When you say "push", see, that could mean lots of things.

Therefore, I vote for getting a receiver that at least has preouts. You probably won't need them, but they could be nice to have. Even just getting a cheap used pro amp to run the mains or something can relieve a bit of the load on the amp, if you ever wanted to, but I'm guessing you'll be fine as is. But, just a dumb guess. The preouts at a small premium will give you peace of mind, just in case, I think.

Since these are bookshelves and you'll have the Subsonic5i handling the bass, I'd say you would be Ok. Out of curiosity, how big is the room you want to put them in and how loud do you intend to play them? I have a system based on the previous generation Image T45s (mains), Image 8C (center),1B (surrounds) and a subsonic 5i and it doesn't take much power to make them sing loud and clear.

The room is about 14 by 14. I know filling the room wont take too much, however a much larger kitchen is directly behind it. I also was thinking about getting an additional set of b4's to use the 7.1 setup the onkyo allows. The room is pre-wired for 5.1 in the ceiling. I was thinking of hanging the b4's in both the front and rear ports for surrounds and the b'5 on stands next to the tv. However with only a few feet separating the front b5's and the "front" b4's (used for surrounds) I am wondering if the additional b4's will be ineffective.
