i set up the sub for 1st time yesterday, and where it is positioned only had 1 interconnect long enough to reach, which a 50ft XLR that was previously used for the run from the preamp to the amp for surrounds at back of the room. it is far longer than needed, and the excess length is draped back and forth behind the couch. does it in any way matter how the excess cable is situated, random back and forth, coiled under the couch, etc.? sub sounds fine, just have never used this length of interconnect where cable was not stretched out around side of the room. was told somewhere along the way never to coil excess cable. thanks for any assistance.

XLR is made for long runs, so in that respect you're OK.
You mentioned "...the excess cable is situated, random back and forth"... That's OK too.
I wouldn't coil it though.

There's not enough current to create much of a magnetic field and it wouldn't be coiled tightly enough to make a difference.

Just didn't want him to be responsible for altering the space time continuum under his couch. It's not pretty.

Good point. I did that once and when I looked under there, I found all of my left socks that had been missing.

so if i do coil under the couch, i could in essence create a black hole? if only i had known, the ex was just sitting on that couch couple days ago...
