I think that I've made up my mind that I want to grab one of these marantz receivers for my bedroom. I may be losing my mind and can't find out any information, but I seem to recall one of the two models having some "technical issues." Are on of these two models more reliable or a more solid unit than the other? I could have made this issue all up in a dream... not sure :D

Thanks,
Jethro

Well I have the 5004 and I love it. There has been reports about the 5004 having a problem with what was called the pop of death where the reciever would have a pop and then go into protect mode but after talking to a few people and Dave at accessories for less the statistics show that the reciever was not having anymore problems then is normal with any other recievers. The Marantz has worked flawlessley for me so far and I am glad I decided to buy it. I cannot speak about the 5003 because I have no experience with that reciever.

Thanks, I suppose there isn't much to worry about then and I'll probably go forward with the 5004 over the 5003 for an extra $20.

Where are you getting it? I acually bought mine here www.accessories4less.com I bought the 5004 refurb and added a 3 year warranty and still paid only half of the list price.

I was going to purchase from accessories4less as well. However, after reading alot on different forums, I'm inclined to wait a little while as the receiver market is rapidly changing and I'm in no hurry right now. I currently own an onkyo 805, denon 1910, and a denon 3805 which are doing just fine. I need a receiver for my main home theater which has been receiverless for about 2 months now.

What looks nice is the anthem mrx300 to me.

I don't need alot of bells and whistles. I need a couple hdmi inputs, pre-outs, and good room correction. I don't use dolby volume or ipods, etc...
I think I'll wait a little while and see how some things pan out.

If your in no hurry then you might even get a better deal later if the price of the 5004 comes down more.
