Turntable for a newbie

Hi,

Any suggestions on a really good turntable that doesn't break the bank (<$500)? It may be more cost effective/feasible if it has a built in preamp.......

Here's my current system:

Receiver: Denon AVR1610

Speaker: Polk Audio 50 Soundbar (will graduate to actual 5.1 set-up later)

Thanks,
Burton

Simplest solution, durable, excellent platform....

Technics SL-1200

Then again, this depends on how serious you are about LPs.

The Sony and Pioneer budget tables (which are about as cheap as you can get) have built in phono preamplifiers. They sound fine, and work fine for occasional use. With a sound bar I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between a high end table and a cheapy. I know you're planning to get separate speakers at some time. I think now would be a good time to test the waters with a decent used turntable or a cheap new one.

The Project Debut and Rega RP1 (not to be confused with the P1) are in your budget.
