Upgrading a 15 Watt sub/receiver

So I have this crazy idea. I have this Boston MicroMedia System PC speaker system with a 15watt sub woofer. Now the Woofer is also the receiver. I just bought a replacement sub speaker for it since this one cracked. But this new one says it can handle 75 to 100 watts. So I was thinking of passing a 75watt car amp between the sub and the wires that goes into the receiver so I can have 90 watt sub with 5watt satellites. What do you guys think? Will it work as simple as it sounds?

Thanks.

it depends on what exactly your talking about, is the sub passive or active (meaning does it have an amp of it's own) if so are you planning on replacing the amplifier? also is the replacement driver you got for the sub the same as the original driver that was in the sub?

Its one of these. According to the specs, the sub is 15watts. I couldnt find anymore info on the sub so I just ordered another sub speaker that looks the same, has the same measurements, and that can handle 15watts. They are both shielded.

I cant post any links yet, I need to make 4 more post -_-

if the driver isnt built to work with the box volume of that enclosure then it won't sound right and have a bad extension.

Your plan is nonsense. You can't swap woofers, and you can't add an amp to the sub like you suggest. You need electronics 101 before coming up with any more ideas.

A bit harsh, but TLS is 100% right.
Only way to "fix" the broken subwoofer is to replace with identical one, except that only other option would to replace whole system. Next time buy separates as they are much easier to slowly upgrade and replace components (within reason).
Replacing broken sub with one you bought - is a bad idea, adding amp is even worse.

Ok, ok. So adding the amp was just a crazy idea, but isnt crazy enough to work. But my question is now, will the sub that I bought work at all with this system?

No, because you did not buy a sub woofer driver, which is a very different item.

You need an identical driver.

Alright, bare with me now. What exactly is the driver? Is it a part that I can physical measure or is it something more then that? Its just that it they look the same, the new and old sub woofer. Sorry for being such a noob, but what can you do? Thanks for your help.

Yeah I saw that, but the item said it was untested, so there is always the chance of me ending up buying another cracked or blown sub woofer.

Driver - a loudspeaker unit, consisting of the electromagnetic components of a speaker, typically a magnet and voice coil. (Source: http://www.audioholics.com/buying-guides/how-to-shop/audio-terms-and-definitions)
Assuming what only the old subwoofer driver is broken (not the amp part) you'll need to replace that subwoofer driver. What you bought is woofer driver, not a subwoofer driver

Thanks. Alright, so what are all the specs I need to pay attention for when buying a replacement sub woofer? I would like to at least try and see if I can find a new one online. Because I dont think its the driver thats broken in my old sub. The whole reason why is b/c the sub is cracked and it sounds horrible like all cracked subs woofers do.

As you been already told multiple times before - there is such thing as alternative subwoofer. This subwoofer is also servers as amplifier for the sat. They matched to work together. So you'll need to get exactly same one.

Option a: I gave you ebay link above for identical subwoofer unit replacement

Option b: throw out this crappy 2.1 system and get a new one and don't waste your time

p.s: This is my last post on this issue
