No brains, little regard for following rules and desperate for attention? Sounds like a career politician in the making.

I am not posting this in defense of the kid in any way shape or form, however the onus will be on the shop teacher to prove that he keeps and runs a safe shop, obviously he didn't. I think in high school kids can be any where from 13/14 y.o. to 17/18 y.o. so lets say that was one of our 13 y.o. kids that we sent to high school for the very first time expecting that he will be well supervised and return home safely at the end of the day, I think we would all be pretty pissed off, I know I would be. Kids do the stupidest things sometimes and we can't always protect them , but at school, in a shop environment I would expect just a little more.Dumb Kid for what he did, yes no doubt, even more so though would be the teacher for his complete failure. Just my 2 cents worth.
Unless the teacher was out of the room I respectfully will totally disagree with you. I'm betting all students in the class had to go through safety training unit before any equipment was used. The amount of time it took to hook up the clamps was probably under 15 seconds. The teacher was probably showing or watching other students perform some specific activity. Beavis and his buddy Butthead probably waited for the right moment to do their stupidity.

The sad part is that many school districts are looking for excuses to kill shop classes, even though some 30% of students end up in a vocational career. This may just be nail in the coffin for industrial arts classes in that school.

"N.H. Teen Who Zapped Nipples During Shop Class Sues Teacher and School District

DOVER, N.H. -- A New Hampshire high school student shocked so severely in shop class that his heart stopped beating is suing his teacher, the school district and the city of Dover.

Kyle Dubois and his parents claim teacher Thomas Kelley did not warn Dubois and other students of the dangers of the electrical demonstration cords in their electrical trades class.

On March 11, Dubois attached an electrical clamp to one nipple while another student attached another clamp to the other. A third student plugged in the cord.

Dubois was critically injured.

The New Hampshire Union Leader says Dubois' suit contends he suffered permanent brain damage.

Kelley resigned from his teaching position about a month after the incident. He declined to comment on the lawsuit."

And these goobers were in an electrical trades class? Who was Moe, Larry and Curly? Too bad they can't teach common sense in school.

Not much more to the article but here it is in it's entirety. I wouldn't believe it unless I saw it in black and white myself.

The comments are funny, though.
What ya mean he suffered brain damage? Sounds to me like he was already suffering brain damage before these 3 stooges pulled off this dumb prank. ;)

I wanna be the lifeguard for the gene pool...because in this case I would blow the whistle 2 times and point at that guy only.."hey you, with the nipple clamps on connected to wires standing next to the outlet...GTFO of my pool!"

Well then we will agree on one thing , we disagree :)
If it happened to your child you would blame your child, I highly doubt it, no parent in their right mind would, we expect some supervision when we send our children off to school, especially a shop class, I have been there and quite frankly our shop teachers did their jobs very well keeping the whole class in check, in this case the teacher was just as irresponsible as the brainless kids proved they are.

When I was in auto-shop class, (back in the 70’s) a few “kids” decided it would be fun to have one of them stick his finger in a coil wire while several others held hands in a chain and the last would hold the ground line. Then another would pull the starting cord. It was funny as hell to see them all jump in unison. The teacher threw a sh.t fit, but the deed was done.

Shop class

I was a student foreman in a woodshop class with LOTS of power equipment. The teacher and I were both in the room and just called CLEANUP, 10 minutes before class was over.
The power was shut off from the master switch to all tools and as the radial arm saw was winding down we heard a loud PINGGGGGG. Usually this is someone cutting through a screw or nail. THIS time it was a boy cutting halfway through his wrist because he was brushing sawdust into the central vacuum system by reaching across the still turning blade with his right hand to brush the dust into the vacuum intake.

Note: bones going into a 10" saw blade are noisy. Wear ear protection.
