Audioquest defends HDMI marketing approach

Gary Merson's article on HDMI cable marketing has gotten an industry response from audioquest. Seems its the old "well they do it". More confusion for the average consumer.

Bill Low said "but says company must match the competition with messaging." Not much different from "But, all the other kids are doing it!". It's time for someone to ask "If all the other kids were jumping in the lake, would you go, too?".

That's a really lame response. It also shows no concern for consumers who may be mis-led to buying the cables with BS marketing claims.

Some of their products are OK, but I have stopped buying their stuff because I see a lot of similarities to Monster in their products and marketing. Not to mention I actually prefer Bluejeans products to theirs.

If they can actually substantiate the need for biasing the dielectric and break-in of cables in a way that engineers will accept, I'll pay attention. Every engineer I ask says the claims are baseless. The interconnects with 48VDC or 72VDC battery packs really pissed me off. A 2m pair with 48V battery pack lists for $4900 and the 72V version lists for $6900- that's not $49 and $72, that's hundreds of dollars. These are the same batteries you'll find in many garage door opener remotes.

Let's get the AQ people to respond here. I want to see this happen.

Before I joined AH I purchased this HDMI cable for $336.00 for a 6'. I recently purchased one from mono price for less that $4.00 and I can't tell the difference. Maybe it's just me. I am still trying to convince myself, but it's not happening.

And here I am, using Cat5e with RCA plugs soldered on the ends to send the audio from my Zone 2 output to the basement and garage receivers, with no apparent loss of fidelity. Hmmm. No hum, no other added noise and the highs/lows sound fine. It goes close to 50' to the basement and about 100' to the garage.

Audiopiles would be appalled if they knew. Oops, too late.

That just means you have not been brainwashed sufficiently to be a True Believer^TM. There are always some who escape and fail to realize The Truth^TM and suffer from "inferior" video and especially audio. And now you are condemned to suffer forever with your cheap cables and are unable to achieve audio and video nirvana, and will be chastised by the faithful, who all "know" better than you, and whose hearing and vision and equipment are all "better" than yours.
