"Dropping 25k for a remote control system is expensive"

I agree!!! That is crazy expensive for a remote. For that kinda money I would want to control my entire house and then some.
Exactly. Pool, jacuzzi, anything. I read that "The Rock" (actor) has a setup where he doesn't even need a remote to fire things up in his theater. When he sits in *his* chair, there is a sensor that feels his weight, and that starts firing up his theater system automatically.

I'm a huge fan of my Harmony 900. Functionality is outstanding and it looks great too. Found one never used on Craigslist for $150

If you wanted to get this one with a RF base station, Im quite sure that it will kick the crap out of harmony's entire line at once:D

Ok my dish receiver is set up for RF now b/c Its currently in my basement and I use the dish RF remote. The model is VIP722 if that helps.

Now that you bring up the 980 what are the main differences between the 450 and the 980?

Thanks for the help. It is much appreciated.

Regardless of Remote you decide to buy, you'll this adapter to make any other remote (other than the original one) work with your Dish DVR:

For best value, as it was suggested above, you could get RF20+Base station for $80 on amazon. It's worth every penny.

If I understand you correctly you are using the TV2 ouput to your display over the fire place, which also leads me to understand that you are not watching HD Sat , correct? Could you please explain detail the all components and how they are wired to the LCD?

The 450 and 980 are two different remotes, browse this page for descriptions.

No I currently am using TV1 from the sat receiver. I have a long HDMI cable ran through the wall to the back of the LED. Currently I have just the sat receiver and the DVD player attached both in the basement. The Sony surround sound isn't connected currently b/c I can't control it and haven't felt like fishing the wires yet. The DVD is currently a pain bc I don;t have an RF remote and the IR obviously doesn't work. I am using the RF remote that came w/ my sat receiver currently and it works fine but if Im going to buy a $300 remote I don't want to have to use two. DVD is connected w. HDMI through wall as well.

You will be able to use any of the remotes mentioned with your dish system without purchasing after market add ons. All of the remotes mentioned here from URC will work fine. The RF20 being the most cost effective, the 450 adding color and easier setup, the 980 being the best with computer setup and ease of creating complex macros. IMO if I were you I would decide what Im going to be doing in the future and make my decision based on that, if it is going to stay simple, Id leave the 980 out of it. (but your title did say best RF remote:D)
