Setup help on new receiver

I just purchased a Pioneer VSX-520-K Receiver after reading several reviews, the audioholics one nailed the deal however this being my first receiver I have some setup questions I'm hoping someone can help me with:

1. I noticed that when connecting my cable/dvr box to the receiver via the hdmi cable I loose sound to the tv, is the receiver unable to transfer sound through the hdmi cable back to the tv?

2. I have Logitech X-540 Surround sound speakers that I was hoping to plug into the receiver since the speakers use RCA plugs however the only speaker connections I see on the receiver are class II connections. Are there any adapters or anything to make the RCA plugs work with these or am I stuck buying new speakers? I also tried plugging the speakers into the Surround Back/Height RCA connectors but I get no sound through them.

If you change the setting to thru under the parameters menu on the remote, but no sound will be played through your speaker system

The surround back rca are pre outs for powering them with a separate amplifier. You need to find another set of rear speakers. What are you main speakers? L/R/C, sub?

Your speakers are powered and can not be connected to a receiver. You will need passive surround speakers.

HDMI audio can be selected to send audio to the speakers connected to your receiver or the TV but not both.

If you set on the HDMI output menu to audio off your receiver speakers will play, if you set it to on you will get audio from your TV but not your speakers connected to your receiver.

Most of us do not use TV speakers. My TV has no speakers.
