A little more than a year ago my dad and i busted out the dark side of the moon lp, i was impressed by it's audio quality. I wanted a record player in my room, which required a reciever and i borrowed some old 3 way heathkit speakers from the basement.
a few months ago i wanted to have my own hi-fi speakers, so i looked around Kijiji/craigslist and found myself a pair of pioneer speaker cabinets, ( 150 watt, 4 way, 12 inch woofer, with a crossover already there. I bought these speakers for $50!, that catch was that the tweeters and supertweeters were blown, i ordered some new 8 ohm tweeters from a fantastic speaker manufacturer called mcbride loudspeakers in ontario canada. i only have a 40 watt jvc reciver(which i have heard good things about online) And i researched wire lengths, gauges, and all that stuff, i use the proper length/gauge ratio. i listen to half-speed mastered audiophile vinyl 24bit/96kh rips from Genesis and other bands i'm really into.
So what do you guys think? I'm new semi new to audio but i feel i know quite abit for my age, i am a bright kid who's always been good with mechanics and technical stuff, i fix and built computers (easy Lol), but please talk to me. I feel i have a good ear for audio quality, i notice little things, these speakers are reall really nice, do they compare to audiophile standards?

Get yourself some Peter Gabriel if you haven't already. I've been on a Gabriel kick lately as well as the Sting and the Police as well as Sting's later solo work.

I can definitely appreciate your system and respect your reason for wanting to get into high fidelity. You'll find there's plenty of information around here and I really hope we get to see more of you around here.

Your post made me smile because I'd like to think I know how you feel.:)

I shouldn't poke fun...I have the same GPU. :p

Its the one on the bottom. I run both a 4870 and a 9600GT for games that have Physx (9600GT runs just the Physx processing).

Hey, if it sounds good, it sounds good. Rather than base your opinions on someone else's standards, though, the best way is to set your own standards higher by taking your favorite songs to local higher end audio shops and listening for what's different - try to hear where and what is missing. Maybe these speakers aren't as good as the 2-3k speakers you'll listen to, but you may be able to isolate some parts that you want to improve in your own speakers.

Anyways the thing that I'd probably take into consideration is that you swapped out the tweeters with a different (?) set of tweeters. The problem with this is that the crossover that was in place may not be right, because different tweeters want different crossover points. Then again, it may not even have been right for the last tweeter.

You may find that getting into DIY a little bit and tweaking that mid-tweeter crossover to a more optimal point and curve will improve your sound quality by a lot - and maybe you could open up the cabinet and see how the interior bracing is - by improving the bracing
