Trying to get 24fps with 8500 UB

I can't seem to get to 24 fps with my epson 8500 UB. I have the Oppo BDP-83 set to 1080p/24 turned to ON not Auto (Just in case the display isn't notifying the Oppo that it can handle 24 fps). I have the HDMI going into my Receiver Yamaha RX-V1800 (with upscaling turned off), then leading from the receiver to the projector. When I check info on the projector while a BR is playing, it shows my frame rate at 23.937 or something like that. It should be at 24 correct. I've tried it with Frame Interpolation turned off and on, and still can't get 24Hz. Granted 23.937 is pretty darn close and the image still looks fantastic.

I'm just wondering whether 24 fps is one of those worthless metrics not worth trying to look for, or am I doing something wrong. My next step is to bypass my receiver and plug the HDMI out from the Oppo straight to the projector to see if the receiver is doing something "hinky" with the signal.

What do you guys think?

23.937 is close enough to 24 for most folks. If it aint broke don't fix it.;)

Ok, I had to reread to find the "something like that" part. We call it 24 because it's easier to call it 24 than what it actually is, namely 23.976 (not 23.937). It is absolutely not worthless. By having this setting, you are showing the frame in whole integers (so to speak), whether 3x by display for each frame, or 4x, or 5x. Lemme look up the 8500. Ok, it does 4:4 of 24p, so I assume you have that enabled. This is NOT FI (as I feel like I repeat at least once a month). This also means 96hz. 96 divided by 24 = 4. Whole integers. The old school way is to put these 24 frames into 60hz. Try dividing that one? We have to smudge/smear them in. Do you still think it's worthless? In my limited experiences, the most obvious difference is with rolling credits at the end of a movie . . .

However, while I've never owned a player that was capable of FORCING 24p (at least to my knowledge), I still might leave it on auto. Then it will select 24p for you for all of your movies, but still output at 60fps when the disc is natively so (perhaps often with documentaries and the like; tv stuff too perhaps?) I am not sure if the ON setting is truly forcing 24p output regardless of source disc, but I sure wouldn't be surprised . . .
