I am planning to buy PIONEER VSX-1020 from USA
I heard that the only difference is the voltage, but it can easily be solved with a voltage converter

my question: does this receiver passthrough PAL video, or does is upscale PAL video

I checked the video processor and it is the same for both europea and US,
on the both manule it states that
• The signal input resolutions that can be converted from the component video input for the HDMI output are 480i/
576i, 480p/576p, 720p and 1080i

do you thibk that US version of this receiver will work in Europea, or those are same receivers

thx in advance

There is also a difference in frequency, the US has 60Hz whereas Europe has 50Hz but it's possible that the power supply takes care of that...I don't really know. I am sure that TLS GUY will come up with the answer.

There is also a difference in FM broadcasting. I recommend that you buy something made for your area instead, though what you are suggesting might work. Here is a link to Pioneer's USA website where you can download an Owner's manual that may answer your specific question:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/HomeEntertainment/AV-Receivers/PioneerReceivers/ci.VSX-1020-K.Kuro?tab=D

And if it does not answer your question, you can contact Pioneer about the differences between one made for the US and for your country, if you are really wanting to do this. But I would really recommend that you buy something for your country, both for avoiding headaches now, and for possible repair headaches later, should they ever be needed.

VSX-1020 has not been released here yet, and Pioneer does not give such specific answers to such questions here

regarding the issue,FM broadcasting is not important for me,
I have read the manual did not see any difference
I just wonder anyone in USA tried to watch PAL video on USA model or anyone in EU tried to watch NTSV video on PAL version,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't PAL just an analog signal? If your using digital it won't matter.

HDMI does eliminate the issue with PAL (which makes me happy seeing as I have several PAL import games for the PS3) but if he has analog inputs he could find issue.

576i, 480p/576p, 720p and 1080i
If the US manual states this, then it supports PAL resolution (576i/p) which logically you would assume it would accept PAL 50hz just fine. Seeing as PAL 50hz is the ONLY thing I can think of that would send a 576i/p signal.

Call the manufacturer and ask them about it, that's the only full proof method to find out.
