They can protest all they want. It ain't gonna make a bit of difference.

"MEXICO CITY (AP) — More than 1,000 Mexican journalists marched through the city center Saturday to protest the killing and disappearance of their colleagues as escalating drug violence increasingly targets reporters.

Carrying signs reading "Not one more!", they demanded protection to do their work in an unprecedented effort to solidify the ranks of a traditionally divided and competitive profession."

Yeah, well, they can't even stop their own politicians, police, and civilians from being kidnapped and murdered in cold blood. Who, exactly, do thee reporters expect to protect them?

ok heres an idea from left field

The US should just take over and absorb everything down to Panama. then... we have a really small border to protect and then we put our own corrupt governement in place which seems to be 20,000% less corupt than the ones we are replacing. they start paying us taxes, the whole citizenship thing becomes moot and our military cleans house on all the drug lords.. I mean there has to be some legal money down there that their own government is leaching..

work with me it just popped into my head and i never claimed to be the smartest guy in the world

while we are at it lets just do the same with Canada:p

So how does it stop, who can make that occur, and how would the guy on the street work toward that end?

Is this a rhetorical question?

So how does it stop, who can make that occur, and how would the guy on the street work toward that end?
If so, I think my comment to the article, which you quoted, pretty much implied that question already.

If not, perhaps you can furnish those poor reporters with the solution. The world awaits your sage response.

Mark: I'm so confused by this response it's honestly hard to accept that you were responding to my post.

"If so"? If what is so?

"my comment [...] implied that question already" I assume you mean the "who can make that occur?" question? I had read your comment as sarcastic. My apologies.

I got an answer, but they aint gonna like it one bit. Instead of stabilizing a country halfway around the world we stabilize the one on our own border. IOTW send in the Marines.

Didn't the British try that with us?

The Mexicans tried it with us, but the British paid mercs to do the job. They didn't come in until the US had built an army and they had finished fighting with Napoleon.

Well,it appears the reporters aren't the only ones sick of the bull, but...

...at least these guys can do something about it.

"CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (AP) — Some 200 federal police officers assigned to fighting organized crime in this violent border city detained one of their superiors at gunpoint Saturday to protest alleged corruption.

The protesters complained that the commander, identified as Inspector Salomon Alarcon Olvera, had ordered the detention of another officer who had criticized him. They accused Alarcon of having links to drug cartels and participating in kidnappings, killings and extortion."

You can't tell the good guys from the bad guys there. Now, if only we could get them to wear white and black hats...

If Mexico becomes part of the US because the military can't be used for law enforcement (Posse Comitatus Act).

Ron White (part of Blue Collar Comedy) has an idea. He thinks the US should take control of Mexico, get rid of the criminals, fix it up and flip it to Central America. Give them a sweet deal on the interest with no down payment. Then, when they can't make the payments, foreclose on it. It'll be a great deal for the US and Central America gets out from under the debt.
