All right fellow members , I am ready to go out and get a new receiver, had my heart set on the Pioneer SC27 http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/HomeEntertainment/AV-Receivers/EliteReceivers/ci.SC-27.Kuro I waited for a price drop and it is finally there it is down around 1100 dollars w/free shipping but then I see this and I kinda like the lower price, who doesn't right http://www.amazon.com/Marantz-SR7002-Surround-Receiver/dp/B000X14W4G?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1281053784&sr=8-1&tag=blurayforum-20 599.99 w/free shipping as well.

So now I ask you guys what do you think, does one go with there initial plans to have all Pioneer or is it all right to save 500.00 dollars and go with this off brand called "Marantz". All joking aside can you guys give me some thoughts on the two, pros and cons and such , thanks, sawz.

$1100 for the SC27 seems irresistible if it is from an authorized dealer.

I agree and I almost think the more I read up on the two of them the Pio seems to have it all over the Marantz but I still won't have the 3D technology the 2010 models have on either one , hmm save money or go Pioneer,

I own the sc 27 and I love it... great sound, nice on screen GUI, 140 watts/ channel, has all the latest codecs.. i paid 1800 on a great sale CAD just about a month ago. Hard to believe you can get it for 1100. It's MSRP is 2200US

A local box store will sell the display which is flawless as they need to set up the SC37 and 35 the 25 and 27's need to go go go as the sales manager says so I made an offer and he said yes but I left without the goods, I worry about the almighty dollar a little more than I should I guess, well it's mine if I want it and in any event there is a new one in the box for 1299 and I know they wont sell em both tonite.

Demo it, I think I am the only one that has touched it for the past six months, the settings are always where I put them last :D.
Of course I know about the "punch" hence my desire to go for the PIO however the Marantz looks like a nice AVR at that price point, hmmm.

FWIW, I just picked up the 7002 and I love it. I can't compare it to the Pioneer, but if money is a big issue for you then I don't think you could go wrong with the Marantz.

Yes, but I don't think they are stereo. Just 2 mono outs. (so you don't have to use a splitter) I think...:)
Still would make me feel above average,in the HT sense Alex, "hey my AVR has a pair of sub outs, what's yours have"? Kinda kewl huh,:p

I made the selection, so I sold off enough items(everything basically) to get a new receiver and although it is last years model I decided to go with the Pioneer SC-27, something about the ICE amps on board makes me feel better after giving up my EMO but I hope to re-build the HT to be far superior to the original set-up and I think this was a good deal, total cost to me with a two year warranty 1195.00 and I was able to get one still in the box, sealed even :).

My total profit from the sale of other HT stuff both on the site and elsewhere was 1075.00 and a small side job hanging a neighbors flat panel and installing one receptacle gave me the dough without hitting the bank and that in itself made me feel better, the empty rack hurts a little but I will change my tune when I un-box the new (to me) Pioneer SC27 :D

Thanks everyone for the links and suggestions, I looked over everything very carefully, read reviews and pretty much knew the SC27 was what I wanted I will definitely not regret this purchase and as appealing as the new SC37 is , the price tag is crazy at just about 2000 dollars, that amount would be better spent on a speaker set-up.
I really like the Onkyo that strongbad linked to:http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXNR807A/Onkyo/TX-NR807-THX-Select2-Plus-135-watts-Channel-7.2-Network-Receiver/1.html it is definitely an excellent deal as well, Thanks Again, sawz..

I actually scrolled over it .
I am Happy don't steal my kool aid, I am sure we will see that kind of deal but not till next fall and by then I will have just figured out how to work the SC27 to its fullest so an upgrade would be out of the question.

I'm happy for you too. A $1,200 rec'r is bound to be a good time but I just had to mess with ya. Call it envy. IMO when it comes to rec'r recommendations anything endorsed by PENG and bandphan in the first response of a thread is like having your path carved in stone.

Congrats on the score and crank it up. :)

Congrats! If there is one thing you need to do in this hobby it is to satisfy wants. Liking some thing for what ever reason is reason enough. Let us know how you like the new toy after you get some time with it.
