Rented this Korean disaster movie based on the positive review from HiDef Digest. It was pretty good. Definitely much more character driven than a Hollywood disaster movie. In fact I think they spent a bit too much time establishing the characters. I kept thinking, "Geez, just get to the tidal wave already." But I did find myself actually caring about the characters at the end. You wanted most of them to survive.

There was quite a bit of screwball comedy in the movie, but that was part of it's charm. The CG effects were pretty good. Not quite up to Hollywood blockbuster standards, but decent enough. If you liked The Host, I think you'll like this one as well.

I'd recommend it.

I did not like The Host. They could have cut half that movie out and it would have been better. It did have its moments, but they were too few.

I own The Host, and I still have only watched it once. Some Korean movies are really weird man, like Oldboy. The Host topped PQ reviews at the time of its release, but that's still not getting me to throw it back in yet.

I blind bought The Host based on reviews and friend's recommendations and ended up selling it. It wasn't bad, but the reviews were saying "Sariest since Jaws" and that simply wasn't the case. It was just OK. I know better know and will probably throw Tidal Wave in as a rental :)

Yeah, I wouldn't call The Host scary. It was just entertaining. It seems like Koreans like mixing comedy in with their scary movies. It's a little strange, but makes for an interesting experience.

Try renting this Korean Vampire movie; Thirst. It's about a Catholic Priest that undergoes a blood experiment that turns him into a Vampire. It's a little slow in the beginning, but gets really good in the middle and the end. I found the end very funny and very satisfying.
