LG 60PK550 vs. Pana 58V10

Well, deciding between these two.
The LG950 is too expensive.

The 550 can be picked up at some places for $1600ish
The 58V10, for whereever it is still available, about $1800ish.

The 550 is a larger screen by 2 inches, but I know quite a few forum goers really prefer the V10. Is the V10 that much better?

Comments?
Thanks

Well,
If anyone was curious.
I just didn't feel my "eye" could really distinguish that much the difference in blacks. I came to this conclusion looking at so many tv's in stores it really got to a point, where there was negligible difference. I was only really good at picking up on motion artifact and skin tone differences. Some of which probably could be dealt with having a good calibration done.

Well, went with LG.
Was the Pana better. Yes.

But, picked up the LG for $1312. Using ebay and last few days of bing cashback.

I'll keep anyone posted on experience if interested.

I have the LG750, same specs as the 550 just with a better looking bezel. I have found it to be quite impressive, colors and contrast for the most part are awesome only thing that could be approved apon is the black levels. Im not saying they are horrible but the V10 is going to beat the 550 in that area, and also with color saturation. The 750 was $1433 at HH Greg which was cheaper than the 550. You can still get the LG's at stores where the V10 you will have to look for online and deal with any headaches that might come along dealing with internet companies, which usually have like a 30 day otb warranty whereas I have a 1 year from hhgreg. But the V10 is a more videophile tv so it will be the most recommended on this site...

Haha, just saw that you put this up 1 min before I posted, you will be happy with the 550 from what I have read the black levels are beter than on the 750.

I would say that comparing blacks in a store is not accurate. They have most of the tv's in vivid mode to make them stand out in the lit salesroom floor. I would take the V10 without hesitation. I have that model v10, and love it. Wait till you tv is broken in and you have it in thx mode....simply awesome. Go 58V10 and don't look back. You wont regret it.

He decided on the LG...I guess you missed that.;). Fwiw out of the box the THX mode would be hard to beat but if your going to calibrated and bypass that processing, it becomes a mute point...IMO.

Regards, Bill....:)

I used to the think the same thing not so long ago. However, I have since learned that the best way to calibrate any display, projectors included, is to use the best mode first, then the basic controls available, and then finally the SM tweaks. IOW, you don't work the SM on something like vivid mode with cranked settings.

I believe this is why that every calibrator out there starts with THX mode (if available) before proceeding with the professional calibration.

Just sayin'. OTOH, I do honestly believe that the great majority of people will not care at all with THX mode. Most people watch with the lights on.
