I have the Denon 3311CI. My question is if it is a mirror image dual sub out, is there really any difference if I just ran a y-adapter out of one sub out and just used that single one for both subs? Just wondering what the point is of having two sub outs if are getting exactly the samething from one sub out and a y-adapter? Or am I wrong about the 3311?

It has an extra sub out, that is the same as the Preout sub channel, it is just a benefit for those that want to run dual subs and not have to use a Y splitter, but either way will work just fine Y or straight out of the second sub out...

They are the same signal, not separate (stereo L & R) so your choice how you want to hook it up. If your using the Y splitter you may have to boost the sub out channel a few db's, no big deal. I'm not sure if you would have to bump up the sub db's if you use the second jack or not, only testing will tell with a meter when level matching sub level to the mains, or if others can chime in on this. Depends on if they linked both sub outs together internally or not.

The majority of AVRs with (2) subwoofers out is just like adding a $2.49 Radio Shack Y adapter.. The subwoofers are simply connected in parallel..
Then the marketing/advertising boys called it 7.2..
Why not add 1 more adapter and have 7.4...

However some AVRs such as the HK AVR7550HD actually provides independent EQ for each subwoofer...
Its objective is to balance the low frequencies across the listener's sweet spot, it was developed in-house by Dr.Toole's team and also is implemented in certain high-end JBL Sythesis components. A separate measurement is done for each subwoofer and then the DSP S/W caculates a unique curve for each. The end-result is the low frequencies are very balanced and it tends to compensate for certain room problems such LF nodes & resonances..

Just my $0.00.. ;)

Thanks for the heads up on the HK's stereo sub correction, nice to hear they are making moves for multiple sub integration easier....

I wish it had 4 sub outs, as its a 1/2 day long adventure for me to EQ 4 subs with REW and the DCX 2496.

I always seem to be way ahead of the curve in needs and what the current products out there provide...:eek:

JBL BassQ? What are your thoughts on that Warp? PDF:

M Code, I am curious on how similar the tech might be between the HK unit you speak of and the BassQ (if they are at all). Of course I note that the JBL handles 4 subs.

The S/W in the HK AVR and JBL Bass EQ originated from the same team under Dr.Toole, but note that the HK AVR is a simplified version as the AVR simply has less DSP resources...

I wonder how the HDMI stuff is working now.
