Advice on using Digm 100s with no Sub

There is nothing to "fit and finish" on those kits. The driver/amp holes are pre-cut, screw holes drilled. It would be the opposite of you removing the driver and amp on your (current) pre-built sub...or the same as putting them back in.
It sounds like he was unable to find a kit with a fit and finish he and his wife could agree on, or thought was high enough quality in terms of finish. I'm surprised you haven't made your recommendation of the rythmic sub paired with the iKea thing you discovered.

For music? Not really. Movies, sure, but he's made it clear that movies are not his priority. For simplicity sake, and the WAF, the Studio 100s should be fine.

The most important factor here is that he can try the Studio 100s with and without the subwoofer he currently has. In reality, he is the final judge on what he can live with, what he can't.
Some negative rep character thinks it's bad advise for the OP to get the Studio 100s and test them with and without the subwoofer and make HIS OWN DECISION on whether it sounds good with or without the subwoofer.

And it's such a wonder why your rep is in the red.

....Yet he ended up with one of those SVS cylinder things ;).
Not sure what kits he could have been looking at, but the Dayton, Madisound, etc., subs & mains all have excellent fit 'n finish (seams/joints, woodgrain, polish, etc.)....often better than off the shelf finished brands. Plus I think he might be conflating "fit 'n finish" with aesthetics. Yes, the (sub) kits are often just a black cube box (like the Dayton I linked). Of course, I don't like those either...;).

Because I have no idea if those would meet his (subjective/undefined) "fit 'n finish" standards...which may well actually translate to be...aesthetics. I linked those as an idea of "maybe how to"...not so much "do this" per se. Ikea is a gold mine for such items (weaved chests, baskets, etc, etc.)....but none might meet his aesthetics....err...fit 'n finish...either.
Maybe he needs to get the Mrs. involved :)

Btw, you know talking to oneself is possibly a sign of madness :D

Sorry - not as sensitive to audiophile jargon as I should be. I didn't mean to suggest DIY are of crappy build quality - I am really after aesthetics - and a particular brand of aesthetics, but I guess I really do view them all as part of a package.

Clean lines, a solid color would be nice, an elegant overall appearance. In otherwords, it really should be something that when my wife or company looks at it they don't really know what it is, in fact, ideally, they will think its a table - a hundred pound slamming table.

That's really what I like about the look of the downfiring 15 - it really looks like a table. I can see owning this and placing it discretely in my home for years to come. It has clean lines and an elegant aesthetic quality that will make this a much much easier sale to my wife. In fact, it'll be such a huge improvement over the cylinder (which used to reside in a basement HT), that she'll be overjoyed.

I just always appreciate it when someone leaves me rep and not tagging it with their name, regardless of whether it's positive, negative, or in the case of the last person that gave me some, grey. Given that it's grey I'm fairly certain who it was, I just balk at why they even decided to do it.

Maybe their goal was to confuse me. I guess it worked then.

Don't have any second thoughts on the downfiring. If you have kids, you never know where the die cast jet fighter will crash next!;)

BTW, I definitely agree with Seth on trying your system without the sub - it's FREE!

I have a friend who went with Paradigm S-8's and he decided to get rid of his sub. On the other hand, Warpdrv has S-8's and has more "subwoofer" than anyone I know of. However, (though not gay) he is a self-confessed bassosexual and has a very large room to pressurize.
