So, I saw a baggie with headphones in it at a thrift store about a year ago, and bought them, they were $1.00. The look of them screams vintage, which is probably why they sold them so low and/or didn't care. The markings on the side have since peeled off, but they gold stickers on the side that are scratched out a bit and the top has a band that says AKG and two large solid wires running above. I saw them in several music videos that showed people listening to themselves in studios and nodding their heads. I hadn't thought about it but after a while it seemed like I had something cool on my hands. They sound real nice (to me) and are the most comfortable pair of headphones I've ever had. I have no idea if they're anything special though, from what markings I can see, it looks like it says "600ohm" but Ohm is the actual symbol obviously, not the word "ohm". Also the word AKG is sprawled across the top band. I tried looking them up but there were several kinds and they all looked the same. hard to tell. The only 600ohm thing I see is the K240. SO one would only assume that's it. The stickers have since fallen off and disappeared but one remembers when something says it has a 600ohm impedence...

Anyway, what do you think, good deal for $1.00? Or worth $1.00?

I would assume. They look exactly the same and the impedence is the same so it's probably those. Problem is I never heard of AKG.

AKG is a world class manufacturer that is involved in professional audio applications. AKG is also one of the top manufacturers when it comes to headphones and headphones like the 240 are used in studios all over the world.

From what I have dug up, some people say they bought them in 1979, others in the late 80's. A few 1990's. They are definitly in excellent condition if they are that old though. Only flaw is the two stickers fell off. The brass rings are unscratched, and the rubber is still soft and not cracked. Even the speaker cloth on the inside is still perfect. It seems like someone put them in a box in the garage 15 years ago and got tired of em, and then just gave the whole box to the thrift store.

Did you find any MSRP on these headphones? It doesn't surprise me these headphones held up over the years, the build quality on AKG headphones in general are very good. If you can you should post a picture. :)

I've seen the MSRP on the new ones, the AKG-K240, but not the K240s (studio) and they are very different and seem to run anywhere from $150-$200. Still haven't found a price on the studio ones for the days of yore.

Very nice! They do look like they have some age on them (vintage AKG) but they are in excellent condition and the padding has not deteriorated at all! Those are some awesome $1 dollar cans. Unbelievable find. Congrats!

Yeah, they were sitting in a plastic baggie on a rack that said $1.00 next to a copy of "Charmed Life" by Billy Idol, which I also bough. It is by far his worst album, but then again there were only like 2 good ones out of 20. That was also $1.00.

They just looked cool and I needed replacement headphones at the time so I got them.:D
