Hey there everyone. It's been a while since I've been on the forum but have always known it to be a tremendous resource. As such, I was hoping to pick some brains since the number of opinions in the community can be fairly plentiful. :D

I just finished installing a 5.1 set of the in-wall Energy Veritas Custom speakers and am now currently in need of a receiver. I've been looking for quite some time and have pretty much narrowed it down to the Marantz SR7002 and Yamaha RXV1900 which can both be had for around $700. Which one would you pick and why? Or perhaps something else... Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

I'm glad that you narrowed it down to two recievers. Just out of curiousity how did you come down to the two you need help with.

I don't know much about the Marantz, but I know the Yamaha is a very good receiver, I have the RX-V1800, my friend has the RX-V1900 and there isn't much differece betweewn the two. Both will serve you just fine, get whichever one has the features you need.

Thanks for the replies.

I narrowed it down based primarily on the amount of power output and the price points of both receivers. In terms of features, it appears the yamaha has the marantz beaten on both the power end as well as overall features with 1080p upconversion (which I don't necessarily need, as far as I know.) Logically the yamaha should win, however, I've always loved the warm marantz sound, only I don't know if it will be a good match with these veritas speakers.

This is just my personal opnion so take it with a grain of salt. Below is how I rank the most typical A/V gear.

Onkyo
Denon
Marantz
Yamaha
Pioneer
Everything else

So I would pick the Marantz over the Yamaha.

Over the last 10yrs i've gone thru sherwood, marantz, yamaha, rotel and ended up back with marantz.I dont think you can go wrong with marantz for both music and the like. You even mentioned you like the warm sound of marantz which i enjoy as well.I think the marantz would make your speakers shine as well.I would atleast see if you could audition either receiver with your speakers. You arent going to really know till you try them out.
You may even search who else has those same speakers and ask for opinions on them.
