Folks, I managed to sneak this film in last night. That being said, I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, the movie looked and sounded fantastic. On the other, the acting was very mediocre. That is, the acting certainly is not going to win any awards per se. However, the story-line was decent.

There will most certainly be a Part II. as the Avatar learns how to master the other elements of earth and fire. In fact, I would not be surprised to see a trilogy coming from this film. As with all things, only time will tell.

In short, the visual and audio effects were good and the plot kept my attention for the most part. However, the acting was about average at best. The little kid playing the role of Avatar sure has some very impressive kung fu skills though. That, of course, is one of the main reasons he is playing that role. All in all, I would have to give this film a solid C. Lets just say I am being generous. Perhaps, seeing this film in 3D may have been better. My advice is to wait and see this one once it is released for home video use.

Cheers,

Phil

I saw it Friday, and thought is was pretty good. It does deviate from the animated series in several key areas, but it was a decent movie.

We are going tomorrow. We really like the animated series and are on vacation this week so even if it's only a "C" we will have fun.:) I'll try to remember to get back with my thoughts.

Is that where this film comes from an animated series? I have no idea, a real Q.:D

I don't know how well this site works but... http://watch-avatar-online.com/

I wouldn't have known about it except I have a 9 year old son.:)
There is no doubt in my mind that the film is more of a kids movie so to speak. It certainly makes for some good family fun. However, the acting still could have been done better imho. But hey, this film proves that "you can't have your cake and eat it too." Other than that, it was a decent film with a great story-line.

Yeah, if the acting wasn't so terrible and the dialogue so inane, it would have been much better :)

Movies like Airbender serve exactly that purpose. That is, good family fun. Holidays like the 4th make it even better. BTW, I am doing fine Doug how about you my friend?

I have not seen it yet, and I don't look forward to seeing it.

The ONLY reason I may end up watching this movie is because my 8 yr old daughter loves the "Avatar Last AirBender" anime/cartoon.

Is this movie geared towards little kids or what?:D

Is this M. Night director dude down to his last straw of desperation or something because I think he sucks.:D

Getting me and a lot of other parents to sit through this movie because it's a kids movie is a pretty low blow in my book.:D

The sound was great. Shouldn't that be enough for you to want to watch it?:D

The bell gong was impressive.

To anyone that has watched it already...

Did anyone notice a cameo from M. Night like in virtually all his other films?

This is what I'm worried about.

...and it's Shyamalan. I know you were avoiding spelling it!:p

You're lucky I managed to get the M. in there.:D

Since the sound quality is great, it might not be half-bad on blu-ray; my local movie theaters suck even worse than Shyamalan (had to cut & paste that one:D).

After each one of his movies, I keep on telling myself, "Man, that is it! This is the last crap I will ever watch from this guy!"

And here I am again. And my daughter is going, "Daddy, can we go see The Last AirBender? Please!":D

And Phil was being generous giving this a "C" grade?

Oh, my gosh. I dread it.:D

Ok, I'm back. We had a good time. It was not as good as the animated series but I fully expected that. It was Book 1 so we are looking at a trilogy if the money holds out. It's an ok movie so I would suggest anyone that hasn't seen and enjoyed the animated series or has a child that is begging to go to wait and netflix it. (Sorry AcuDefTechGuy:)) It's worth watching but not paying through the nose to see.

The acting was hit and miss. I could see if you haven't seen the cartoon how you could get the sense of bad acting with some of the characters. I blame some of it on the director.

My wife really enjoyed it. She really likes going to the movies and I rarely do so it could just be the fact that we were out as a family.

My son said it was just ok. He doesn't look at this movie as being the same as the series. It might as well be a completely different story with different characters and everything. Maybe he's smarter than his old man...:)

The sound quality was very good but the visual quality sucked. I hope it was just the theater we saw it in but certain parts were out of focus (not all) and the motion blur was dreadful.(sometimes) I can't imagine it was produced like that. I had to be the theater...

I had the same issue.
