same here. and i want more. seeing as how i am in a condo, and i am pushing it already ......
but i am looking into selling and buying a house. then i will do 4 15's or something.
i didn't read your other thread. how about a rundown here ?
how much is that driver ? looks like a beast.
If you check out my latest 2 pics, I've got some awesome pics of the assembly completed. Anyhow....
I spent $1050 for the kit, that was 350 for each driver and 450 for the amp, so the cabinet was basically free. But anyhow,
I spent about $150 in paint, sand paper, sealer, supplies, etc. and basically began by assemblying the enclosure with tightbond 2 wood glue. routed the 4 corners with a 1/2" roundover and all the other edges with 1/8". Then, sanded all sides with a palm sander with 60 grit first, then 100, then 220. Then, applied Duplicolor's high build filler primer. First, I sprayed 5, thin coats, then sanded, then 5 more thin coats. I then went to color but if you follow the thread, you'll see I didn't quite get my edges as smooth as I wanted. So, I resanded, then applied 2 more of the 5 by 5 thin coats of primer, and switched to color (high gloss lacquer, by Duplicolor). I sprayed 3 thin coats, twice, and then switched to clear coat, for which I sprayed 5 thin coats. I waited about a few days for the paint to cure, and then I went to wet sanding....
I actually used a handheld palm sander, with 1000 grit paper, and smoothed the surface out real nice, then used my wood block and wet sanded with 1500 grit...
After I was happy with the dull surface, I used 3m's rubbing compound and did about 6 passes with each side to get everything very reflective, then used Nu Finish Polish to get the swirl marks gone....
All in all, very tough process, but very rewarding. eD's fully assmembled A7s-650 runs about $2,000, but I put together the kit and did my own mirror gloss finish for around $1,300... Think about it
Anyhow, it was a very rewarding project for me and I encourage anyone else to do the same. Please let me know if you have any questions!
