Looking for a cheap-o receiver

I'm looking to get a cheap receiver because my onboard sound on my mobo got messed up when my dog ripped out my headphones. Currently I still get quality sound from the headphones it's just much lower volume even at max settings within the computer. I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheap receiver that I could connect to the port to boost the sound. (note a new sound card won't do the trick there are no open ports)

Don't buy anything at eCost or eWiz - same owners - very questionable policies...

For good deals on cheap receivers (refub) checkout accessories4less.com

+1, but I'd also shop craigslist for a used receiver in the $50-75 range.

I've purchased a receiver and speakers from ecost.com and my parents got a receiver from them too. Both receivers were refurbished Denons and both have been perfect thus far, I see no reason to not purchase from them. As for a receiver, are you looking for surround or a stereo receiver?

Maybe I confused ecost&ewiz being same owner, however about two years ago I was on the hunt for good deal for 4870 gpu. eWiz had a great sale using instant rebate coupons. Long story short - instead of accepting my money and honoring the deal - eWiz canceled my order and offered to purchase it at higher cost. Classic book bait and switch trick. Would never buy anything from them.

Yeah, there are always exceptions, and something like that would have turned me away from them as well.

I must be lucky then.

I've bought 4 Denons in the past from eCost - PMA2000 x 2, DVD-5910CI x 1, DVD-3810CI x 1, and I never had any issues with them.

But maybe I have been lucky.

And when eCost gets another Denon AVP-A1HDCI in for $3,300, I will be pulling the trigger.:D

I too haven't had any issues with their Denon stuff. The people who are most likely to leave bad feedback on reseller ratings are those who have had bad experiences with the company.

I had some issue with ecost in the past - purchased a refurb onkyo dvd player and they made it a hassel to return the item when it was disfunctional. i ended up working it out, but it took too much effort. haven't purchased from them since

a4less is a great place.

I used eCost with no problems a few years back for a couple of things at a good price. One warning though, their Pioneer Elite stuff--at least at the time--wasn't covered by Elite's warranty as I found out.
