Please help me pick my In Wall Speakers!

Hello All,

I am getting ready to move in to a new house and need some In Walls for my Great Room. Reason for In walls is to keep it clean, make the wife happy and avoid any damage from my kids.

I have a Sharp LC64D64U TV and a Denon AVR-790 (90W x 7)

I am going with a 5.1 setup and have already decided that a Dayton Sub from Parts Express is my best bet.

For the in walls here are some options in order of expense (lowest to highest)

A - Monoprice MC-525-1Y Center + 2x 8" 3 ways for L and R + 2x 5" Kevlar for rears: $340 shipped (alternatively will replace 8" for 3 matching LCR's for roughly the same price)

B - 1x Dayton US520M Center + 2 Dayton US830W for L and R + 2 Dayton CS620W rears: $500 shipped (alternatively will replace 8" for 3 matching LCR's for roughly the same price)

C - 3x Axiom M22 for LCR + 2x Axiom M2 rears: $950 shipped

D - 1x Speakercraft LCR 1 Center + 2x Speakercraft Cinema One for L and R + 2x Speakercraft LCR3 One rears: $1300+ locally

So, these are my options....please let me know your thoughts. Are there any others in this price range? The speakercraft setup is definitely my maximum for price (might be even be higher). $1000 is about all I want to spend, but might be willing to go a little higher. Does anyone know where the Triad Bronze in walls are priced at? Anyone have experience with the Axiom's?

The Dayton & SC centers are the only ones that'll fit into a standard 16" OC studbay if that's an issue, the SCs being the better speakers.

This is above a fireplace and the studs are in a bad spot already...so there will probably need to be some modification to the studs. I was just there today and based on the holes for the speaker boxes, it looks like there are doubled studs on this wall. I am hoping I can do some trimming without impacting a load bearing stud.

So, lets pretend this is not an issue....or that I can put the smaller Axiom M2 in place instead of the M22 for the center. Any thoughts on the Axiom? They are the only sealed speakers in this bunch.

Whatever you buy, make sure you build enclosures into the wall cavity to maximize the sound. There are some articles on this site that discuss this.

Not sure if you can find them locally in your budget, but RBH makes some excellent in-wall speakers. If it was me, I would either go with RBH or Speaker Craft.

This why I was interested in the Axiom's. They are pre built with enclosures and the internal volume is done to the correct specs. If you can point me to any links on building these enclosures that would be awesome!

Personally I would use MDF. Make a box, screw it together, caulk the seams with accoustical caulk and stuff with insulation.[/QUOTE]

Don't you think that the cabinet volume could be an issue? I have heard that some in walls are not designed to perform well in an enclosure.

I am still leaning towards the axioms given they have the enclosures and are tuned to perform well in that exact enclosure.

I have also looked at outdoorspeakerdepot.com has anyone bought speakers there?
