He should have put his hips into it and flattened her out proper.
Slamming a teenage girl onto the concrete risks injury that would seem unneccessairy (what he did worked).

I don't think he did anything illegal or inappropriate.

I don't think either that this represents a gold standard of how to respond to the situation. He did loose control of the circumstance and is lucky that things didn't end up worse for all involved.

A lone cop trying to ticket 5 people for J-walking and one starts to walk off: what might have worked better?

To the other four: "Today is your lucky day because that girl just got you out of a ticket. You are going to tell me her name and home address and I'm going to get a second officer and go arrest her for 'resisting without violence', as well as ticket her for J-Walking."

But while I think that would have been the best solution: I don't expect perfection from police. As I said: he was well within proper behavior from what I saw.

how many shots does a taser have? maybe he was saving it incase the friend and camera man got involved.
A taser deployment with darts has one shot...then you can only dry stun, or replace the cartridge and deploy it again.

The Officer didn't appear to have a taser, and not every officer is trained with one. Not all departments issue tasers. Not to mention a taser deployment with darts should only be used in incidents just under the level of Lethal Force, according to the 9th Circuit (Circus) of Appeals.

I guess I'll be the one person here who's against it. Sure the girl had it coming, but you just don't punch a girl in the face. I would rather the cop had tased or maced her.
Tasing is considered a higher level of force then impact strikes and weapons...another problem is there were two people actively resisting and a taser is designed to be used against 1 person. As far as mace..mace has since been replaced with pepper spray (in most agencies). The problem that I see with pepper spraying the two of them is some of the bystanders around them would have also felt the effects of the pepper spray. Another downside to pepper spray is you have to eventually go hands on with the suspect and the pepper spray will get on you.

There is no easy solution to that scenario. I think under the circumstances, it turned out pretty good.

once the situation escalated the cop had to respond, the girl was out of control putting her hands on the cop...

did the cop help it get out of control, seems like it
ticketing people for walking 10' outside of a line is kind of silly
a warning would have sufficed...
I'm sure the neighborhood and make up of the residents had something to do with it...bet there's no cops in the white upper class areas ticketing kids for walking outside the lines...

the worse part is it gives ammo to one side to attack the cop, and the other side to attack the minorities...'hood rats', nice

could have been worse: shot 20-30 times for brandishing a hairbrush or a wallet

The young lady is no stranger to assaulting police.
Court records show Levias has been arrested for assaulting a police officer before this incident. According to court documents, Levias kicked a King County Sheriff's deputy in the stomach while she resisted arrest

You sure have a nice outlook on Law Enforcement....pretty disgusting if you ask me! Its people like you that point the finger in another direction, and then its the ignorant that follow suit....not everything is race and class.

Have you once thought that maybe that officer or many officers like him are directed by their Sergeants, Lieutenant , Captain etc...In response to the community (which consists of all ethnicities) request to watch a specific cross walk and conduct extra enforcement, due to ongoing problems and law violations (human traffic hazards). That is called Community Oriented Policing....obviously you have no clue on how things work in Law Enforcement these days....You listen to the crap that the media spew and the crap that the community activists claim is going on, and make absurd statements as above.

You said, "I'm sure the neighborhood and make up of the residents had something to do with it...bet there's no cops in the white upper class areas ticketing kids for walking outside the lines..."

What are you betting on? and where is your proof that this is so???

Well ... he could have returned on his day off in a stolen car and treated it like Death Race 2010 with point assignments for how bad they tried to jump back up on the sidewalk when they realized that he was taking Right of Way to a whole new level. In the spirit of fairness points would be deducted if they had two feet on the side walk when they got run over.

Yeah ... that would have worked way better. ;)

I hate jay walkers. There's a junior high about a mile from me. I'm kind of amazed that the teachers don't go into the schools and start shooting the place up instead of it always being the students. I hate teen agers and cops too. When I was in school I hated teachers.

I must have my cranky pants on.

I have no doubt you were in the Mickey Mouse club

Spew crap??...and what crap did I spew?

What does you being in law enforcement have to do with what you said?

you said, "well, it's pretty coinicidental that every episode you see is white beating black or hispanic

Have you once thought that might be due to the demographics?...some areas have a large majority of a race (and yes, white people can be the minority). The media loves to focus on issues of race...white cop striking black or hispanic brings lots of controversy and ratings.

Please explain how people like me perpetuate it...

I know less than you in what way?

huh?

what have i spouted off about things i don't know about?

you mean when i posted my opinion on the matter and how i shared how i was gonna teach my kid?

oh i see. you're the type of person who:
-attacks the person instead of the argument
-doesn't even think before spouting words from his mouth (soldier = war ... classic)
-thinks everybody else who doesn't share your opinion is spewing crap

strike 2.

pretty much your whole take and perspective on the situation and my position

it means you talk the talk, but never walked the walk...perhaps you should comment on things you know something about...what would that be?
please tell us

1/8 of the country is black, 9/10 ths of the police brutality cases are white on black, do the math...

because you live with blinders on, and a closed mind

pretty much every way conceivable

Anyone with as much worldly experience as you claim to have, would know that Racism is a two way street, always has been, and always will.
