Hi guys I'm looking at both of these receivers. Wondering what everyone's opinions were. Pros and cons...etc. Also, how important do you guys feel buying a 1.4 device is right now? Thanks.

I'm a fan of Onkyo receivers. Denon makes a heck of a fine receiver but bang for the buck you pay a lot more for a Denon with the same amount features/power bang.

3D (HDMI 1.4) compatibility just depends on your needs. Are you going that direction in the next few years? If so it's worth it. If not then you can save a couple of hundred. The same with the network features of the TX-NR708. I'd just as soon use a dedicated media player.

Yeah personally I don't think I"m really that interested in 3-d but I feel like 1.4 spec might have some other things I might want later but nothing else I have is 1.4 so why worry about it I guess. Thanks for your input.

I'd go with the Denon over the Onkyo, but that's just me.

I like the looks of the Denon, plus it runs a lot cooler, and it's just a personal preference. The Denon may cost more, but you can get a refurbished model for a significant savings and it's just as good as new. Plus I've heard some stories about customer service nightmares with Onkyo.

Do you or anyone else on this thread like anything from Pioneer in that price range?

I would only consider Pioneer's Elite line. The non-Elites are something I avoid (twice bitten). But I'll still take an Onkyo over Pioneer for Audyssey.

Fair enough. That's what I assumed regarding the Pioneers.

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up. If I only had the money right now :) Honestly I'm leaning a bit more towards the Onkyo at this point. Thanks very much though.

I bought the Denon 2310 from amazon about a month ago, and have been using it ever since with no problems. The audessey setup has been astounding for me, and my speakers have never sounded better. I'm running it in 5.1 mode, and am pleased that I could reassign the two surround channels to bi-amp my front speakers, which has also provided significant improvement.

So revisiting this now, what are the main video processors in these couple models we're talking about, which is better, and why? Thanks.
