have they fixed the sync problem with the blu ray? Just saw it at walmart and wasn't sure when they were going to rerelease it. Does walmart still edit their movies?

There was a re-release already, it should be safe to buy now.

I don't believe Wal-Mart ever eddited movies. Wal-Mart doesn't sell CDs with explicit content, is that what you were thinking of?

Since the film industry has the MPAA to rate their films Wal-Mart would have do do something to the affect of not selling any movies that are rated R. Of course this would deliver a crushing blow since the studio's don't offer a censored version of rated R films for software release.

I think he's talking about the audio sync issues with the early discs of SPR, they re-released a new version that fixed this issue.

It was re-released on May 18, a few weeks after it originally shipped. Flip it over and look at the UPC code, it should be yellow not white. I bought mine on release day and though I didn't have the problem, I still took it back to Frys and they exchanged it.

I know he was talking about that, however he also said this at the end of his post.

To my knowledge they have never done this.

That is Blockbuster that does this and yes, they still do.
Are you talking about the discs that say Rental on them, and only include the main movie, no directors cut, special features, or multiple languages?

No, it has been well documented that they will actually edit movies to remove or cut down nudity or other scenes that they feel are not inline with their image. The scenes are either shortened or removed. They have been doing this for years and that is one of the main reasons why I stopped using them.

That's unbelievably stupid.

It may actually be that they are not doing the editing themselves, but instead are stocking edited versions, almost like edited for TV versions or ones which may be cut for a particular area (Salt Lake City?), but that is still edited in my book and isn't what I want. It supposedly goes along with their whole "we carry no porn" "family" image.

*edit - Just did a Google search and came up with this: if a movie has a R and an NC-17 version, Blockbuster will only stock the R version, so that probably accounts for what I have seen myself and what others have said.

Thanks guys. That may be what I was thinking of re: editing the movies.

Thanks for the thread. I have a Blu-ray disc to buy SPR ASAP! I didn't realize it finally made it to BD. Does it have a DTS HD MA soundtrack?

Okay, I can probably just look that up myself. But I look forward to seeing it again. That and Gladiator - when I'm at NOT WAL-MART buying my movies tomorrow I think I'll pick-em both up.

Blockbuster has done this for decades, with editing. It irks me to no end that because some company has a religious agenda (Mormon owned company) that they have to instill their views of what they consider right and wrong down my throat. I lived in Mesa, AZ for about 10 years and they are ranked number 2 for most mormons living in a city and the actual cinemas would edit movies to appeal to their Mormon audience.
I recall seeing "Time Cop" with Van Damme in Phoenix and a buddy wanted to watch it (in Mesa) and the entire "Virtual sex" scene was cut out. I immediatly got up and talked with the manager and complained that I paid seven bucks to watch the entire movie not the "PG" version of the movie and he gave me my money back after balking, but said they had to do that otherwise they would lose money.

My response was, "Oh the Morons ooops Mormons, have no issues with gratutious violence in the movie, but a naked chick and they go friggin bonkers and how would the studios feel if they knew that the cinema was chopping up their movies. It turns out they did mind and directors like Speilberg had a field day with cinemas that edited his movies (like Saving private Ryand and Schindler's List)

My whole theory on this is, if you want to believe in a "God" and feel a movie (clearly rated R) has content that is questionable, sit your arse at home and don't go see it. but don't force your ideals on those who want to see it. That and I find mormons to be the biggest hypocrites considering the number one city that partakes in internet porn is Salt Lake City.

Now before I go off on an even bigger tangent, I better go worship my "magical rocks" and marry my 7th underage wife....oh wait that's right mormons don't do this. (cough-cough Warren Jeffs cough-cough)
