I thinking of getting a pair of Pro Speakers. Will my MX-1 be able to drive them? If so at what maximum, i.e. 200 Watts max per speaker? Thanks in advance.

What environment will the speakers be driven in, what speakers are we talking about.

Chances are, yes, the MX-1 will throttle them quite well. That's a very stable amplifier with a good amount of headroom. I wouldn't use it to power large monitors in a huge venue, but in your home I'd think it would drive you out of the room.

Thanks man. Im quite sure it will drive a pair of Yamaha S112V Pro Speakers, but i just wanna make sure before purchase them. These pro speakers will be in my living room. If S112V is too much, I will get the BR12... Thanks Seth=L.

Another question. Since the Pro speakers use 1/4 jack cable, do I cut this and plug this into my amp or is there an adapter for it? Thanks

You can purchase the 1/4" connectors at a local music supply store and connect your own wire to it.

Oh, I got you now, my uncle did the same to the SLR for my Mixer. I would think the small needle of the 1/4 jack is RED/Positive right? Thanks

Those speakers have a sensitivity rating that’s about 10 dB higher than your average home speaker. You’ll be able to drive them to ear-splitting levels with a 50 watt amp, unless you’re talking about using them outdoors or in an auditorium.

Unless you know how to solder, your best bet is to get some speaker cables that have 1/4” plugs on one end and bananas on the other.

Thanks Wayne, I've done soldering b4. If it is that loud, I mean, what if I do not turn them too loud? Can I turn them to a normal level or I need to crank them up to get the full effects? Thanks.

For speaker cable I’d recommend a heavy-duty 1/4” plug like the Switchraft 184, 184L or 188, not the light-duty plugs you find at Radio Shack. They are large-barrel connectors with holes large enough to accept speaker cable, and substantial solder terminals better able to handle the extra heat needed for heavy-gauge wire.

The high sensitivity rating only means it doesn’t take a lot of power to get them to the same volume levels as “regular” home speakers. IOW, you’ll find that you’ll get greater volume with a lower setting on the receiver or amp than you’re used to.

Just treat them as you would any other speaker and run them at any level you feel comfortable with. Or louder if you prefer. A benefit of pro-grade speakers like these is that they are able to play at high volume levels for long periods of time. Most home speakers can’t handle that kind of stress.
