We watched the The "Road" last night and while I liked the movie, I was generally disappointed with the sound mixing. Most of the dialog was at a whisper level and hard to make out. My parents had a real hard time hearing what was being said. Of course, turning it up so you could hear it resulted in everything else blasting you out of the room. About 1/4 of the way through I turned on compression it was that bad. Even turned up beyond what I would ever listen to a movie and with compression on, there were still a few times when you could not make out what was being said. Whoever mixed this thing needs to go back to school.

I didn't have any problems hearing dialogue but it is just an average movie. Which is hard for me to say since its my favorite book. There was a good scene near the end where all the trees fell....gave the subs a chance to stretch there legs.

Were you watching BD or DVD? I rented the BD and didn't have any problems with the dialog. But then again I always watch movies with the subtitles on, so maybe I just didn't notice.

I thought the movie was OK, just depressing as hell. I didn't read the book so I don't know how close the movie was to the source.

Your center channel is of poor design and it sucks. I have no trouble with any dialogue in my theater- TLS Guy

Actually I have a very high quality Center channel, it's a Paradigm studio series. Out of all the movies I have and have ever listened too, this was by far the worst mix I have heard on a modern movie. The worst!

The Blu-ray we watched, and my levels are matched correctly too and I have the some room treatments. The the level of dialog in the mix sucked and I have confirmed this with other reviews too.

The mix (bluray) was a little weak on the dialog plus, Viggo tends to mumble ;).

Very depressing film.:(

I saw it tonight and thought it was almost unbearable. It's so grim and hopeless that I had a hard time finishing it. While the script (and the book) is careful to not explain what happened, the event has all the signs of an asteroid impact or supervolcano explosion. The few survivors have lost most traces of civilization. We are not sure just how long it's been since the event but there are no animals left and vegetation all appears to be dead. Food is scarce, the father is suffering from silicosis and the ocean is gray. In short, the earth is fu**ed and everybody is dying.

I thought the acting was quite believable. Nobody had names. The kid may have been whiny, but that's the way kids are when things are bad. He was also traumatized, desperate and scared; quite a range for such a young actor. Vigo was excellent, as was the small role by Robert Duvall. Music production by Nick Cave (a favorite of mine) worked. This is an unbelievably depressing movie, so if you're not in the mood for the end times, don't see it. Last week, I saw, the Book of Eli, so I was sorta ready for the apocalypse, but this flick makes Eli look cheery. I can't say that you will enjoy the movie unless you have a really dark perspective on things, but it is very well done and well worth a view.

OMG YES. I was watching with my brother and we wanted to kill the kid after 5 minutes.

I was so hoping he'd die and then we'd see some vigilante justice. Instead I was treated to a snoozefest, 4/10 overall.
