I recently watched (or half of anyway) The Hurt Locker. I was very impress by the bass it. Some of the explosions really shook the house but the 50 cal machine gun when they are fighting along side the Brits they came up upon that had a a flat tire.

That was bam bam bam bam. Unbelievable. Biggest bass I had heard in awhile.

Then I watch Avatar the next week....

TS is a great LFE movie, one of the scenes that rocked for me was the helicoptors landing in the begining of the movie.. it wasnt super low but it was the first scene that hit me hard right after I bought my empire.

master and commander is a great one with the canons

Too bad I already rented Hurt Locker a few months ago.

I tried the Darla scene of Finding Nemo last night. That was CRAZY. The wife got pissed because the neighbors were home. But who cares, we're moving to the new house in a few months anyway. :D

Why not test out the sub with some music, say samplers from Pendulums new album coming out "Immersion":

specifically

Set Me on Fire

or

The Island - Part II

(Laptop audio output to receiver input...)

Even with my wimpy subs i was pretty impressed with the clarity and punch, and room pressurization...even if not CD or SA-CD quality.

The 'Darla' scene is great and never fails to impress new comers. Its what I used to check for vibrations and rattles in the house after getting my Ultra. Just kept playing it over and over making adjustments to things.

I use the AIX disc from Oppo to check for rattles as it has a few different sweeps. I definitely have some :D

Another one on par with Darla is The Haunting "Coming mother..." scene. DTS-ES.

Master and Commander and WotW are both great.

You guys for got the oh-so-horrible Flight of the Pheonix, when the plane starts to descend and eventually crash. The scene is a good 5 minutes of deep LFE that does a great job at pressurizing the room. It makes you feel almost like your sitting in the plane feeling the change in air pressure as it does a rapid descent!

I remember there being something on The Haunting but I couldn't remember what it was. You might even be the one that showed that to me. Is that the scene with Catherine Zeta Jones and that other chick sitting on a bed or something? I think I might have that on a demo disc somewhere. I'll look for it.

I believe that disc has long been OOP since it is a DTS only disc, so if you don't have it, it may be a little tougher to find. It was the first movie ever to use DTS-ES. I have it if you need to try it...

Well I have a bunch of DVD's with demo scenes on them that I got from the AVS forum. I think that Haunting scene might be on one of them. I don't know if it's DTS though. I'll look for it tonight.

Yep, the demo disc I have did indeed have the DTS version of that scene. Pretty frickin' loud.

It's not dts only, I kept renting it from blockbuster online since it said it was dts, but I kept getting a dobly digital copy, and the local store only has it in dd. But I do have a couple different scenes from it on a couple of my demo discs, and it has some serious bass in it.

I know there is a DD version, but it blows compared to the dts-ES version. There are two versions of the disc and they each have only the dd or dts tracks and a dolby stereo option. I would expect that Blockbuttster only has the DD version as the dts is pretty rare just like the dts version of Saving Private Ryan (which I also own :) ). The separate dts versions came out early on for DVDs and eventually they died out because too few people understood what it was and didn't have dts capable gear at the time. This was also at the time when some receivers and DVD players didn't have dts capability obviously.

I too have the saving private ryan dts edition, but since I got the blu ray with lossless dts, it does me no good. :(
